CANYON, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team kicked off day one of the West Texas A&M University Jo Meaker Classic & Multi on Thursday with a trio of multi athletes competing in the first events of the heptathlon and decathlon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Thorben Hast was one of just seven total student-athletes taking part in the first five events of the men's decathlon on Thursday as he went on to finish the first day in third place among the field with 3,710 points. Hast began his day by clocking a time of 11.38s in the 100m dash before notching marks of 7.12m in the long jump, 11.52m in the shot put, 1.85m in the high jump, and 49.38s in the 400m dash.
- In the women's heptathlon, redshirt juniors Maggie Remsberg and Faith Novess finished the first four events of action in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Remsberg began her day with a time of 14.88s in the 100m hurdles then went on to post outdoor personal best marks in the high jump (1.62m), shot put (9.69m), and 200m dash (26.36s) for a total of 2,892 points. Novess posted 2,862 points across the first four events as she notched a time 15.32s in the 100m hurdles and cleared 1.65m high jump before registering personal best marks of 10.23m in the shot put and 26.88s in the 200m dash.
UP NEXT
- Hast is set to resume the final five events of the decathlon tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. (MT) while Remsberg and Novess will complete the final three events of the heptathlon beginning at 12 p.m. (MT). UCCS will also have field athletes in action at 2 p.m. (MT) competing in the high jump, hammer throw, and pole vault.
