TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team opened the 2023 West Texas A&M Desert Invite Monday afternoon with a 355 (+67), putting the Mountain Lions in 20
th place in the two-round tournament.

- Kaya Kshatriya is leading the Mountain Lions after Monday's round one. Her 84 (12) today has her tied for 48th place. She was responsible for two of the Mountain Lions three birdies today, including a birdie on just her second hole of the day.
- Four strokes behind Kshatriya and in a tie for 79th place is Olivia Florence (88, +16). Florence started the tournament with a birdie on her first hole of the day (No. 13) and finished sinking one par on the back nine and five on the front nine.
- Samantha Saile's +19 91 has her sitting in a tie for 90th place. Saile notched two pars on her first two holes of the day and finished the opening round with six pars.
- Bringing in the Mountain Lions scorers is Emily Shimkus. After shooting a +10 on each half of the course, Shimkus is tied for 95th overall with a 92.
- Rachel Penzenstadler is just one stroke behind Shimkus to move into scoring position and is currently in 98th place.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Cal State East Bay sits on top of the 20-team tournament with a 316 (+28), and a two stroke lead over Point Loma.
- Leading all 104 golfers is Colorado State Pueblo's Minna Archer, who penciled in a 75 (+3) on her scorecard today.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- UCCS is fifth in par 3 scoring (3.50, +10), 18th in par 5 scoring (5.85, +17), and 20th in par 4 scoring (5.22 +61).
- The Mountain Lions three birdies are ranked 18th most in the 20-team field, and their 26 pars are the 19th most.
UP NEXT
- The second and final round of the WT Desert Invite will begin Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (MT).
