THIS WEEK'S TOURNAMENT
- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team will travel to Boulder City, Nevada to compete in the 2022-23 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship Tournament on April 23-25. UCCS will be one of 12 teams competing for the championship title. All three rounds will be played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The first Mountain Lion to tee off and open the tournament on Sunday is Rachel Penzenstadler who will start the action for UCCS from Hole 1 at 12:30 p.m. (MT).
RMAC CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
LAST TIME OUT
- Competing in their final regular season tournament, UCCS finished the 2023 West Texas A&M Desert Invite in 20th place with a final score of 707 (+131).
- After swinging an 84 in round one, Kaya Kshatriya carded a 90 in round two behind six pars to finish the tournament in a tie for 76th place with a 30-over par 174. Samantha Saile took off six strokes from the opening round of 91 and earned a tie for 87th place with a two-round score of 176 (+32). Emily Shimkus and Olivia Florence each carded a 36-over par 180 over the two rounds, tying for 93rd place overall.

WEATHER FORECAST
- Ideal weather and golf conditions are in the forecast for the RMAC championship tournament. During the three competition days, the golfers will be playing under mostly sunny skies with a mild breeze and temperatures in the mid-80's.
HOT TAKES
- The Mountain Lions have competed in eight tournaments this season, playing in four tournaments during the fall portion of their season and four tournaments in the spring season.
- UCCS posted three top-10 finishes as a team. They started the season with an eighth-place finish at the Colorado Christian University Swan Memorial, before placing third overall at the CSU Pueblo Farmers Insurance Invite on Oct. 10-11, 2022. The Mountain Lions notched their third-place finish for the second time this year, tallying a 637 in their first tournament of the spring season at the Southwest Minnesota State University Spring Classic March 13-14.
- UCCS used a season low round of 307 at the CSUP Insurance Invite to propel them to a third place finish out of 11 teams. Their second and third lowest rounds of the season came in the season opening tournament (CCU Swan Memorial).
- Emily Shimkus maintains the six lowest round scores by a Mountain Lion this season. Her season-best 72 was carded in the third round of the West Region Preview on Oct. 4, 2022.
- The Mountain Lions, who are coming off runner-up finishes in the last two conference championships, last won the RMAC tournament title in 2018.
UCCS UNDER HEAD COACH TODD LAXSON
- After serving as the UCCS assistant coach for four years, Todd Laxson was named the UCCS Women's Golf Head Coach and is in his fourth season at the helm of the Mountain Lions. The Mountain Lions have garnered two RMAC second place finishes in the conference championship tournaments.
UPCOMING TOURNAMENT
- The team champion from the conference championship tournament will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Women's Golf West Regional tournament.
