GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had a small group of distance runners competing at the Mines Mini-Meet on Friday at the Colorado School of Mines Stermole Track & Field Complex in Golden, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Redshirt freshman Jack Donze and junior Nathan Hayes got the action started for UCCS as both runners competed in the first outdoor 5000m races of their collegiate careers. Donze turned in a second-place performance, finishing the race in an altitude converted time of 15:06.05, while Hayes crossed the line in seventh overall with a converted time of 15:36.38.
- Junior Rachel Richtman was next up on the track as she competed in the 3000m steeplechase for the first time this season and managed to complete the race in an altitude converted time of 11:22.34 for a fourth-place finish. Richtman's time ranks ninth in the RMAC this season and will qualify her to compete in the event at next week's conference championship meet.
- In the women's 1500m race, junior Kelsey Graff was the lone UCCS student-athlete competing, and she went on to clock a season-best raw time of 4:53.81 for a third place finish out of 19 runners.
- The Mountain Lions had a pair of runners in the men's 1500m, with redshirt junior Gavin Harden clocking a raw time of 4:09.01 for a 13th place finish and sophomore Joseph Hamilton coming across the line at a raw time of 4:14.85 to finish 15th.
- Redshirt junior Michela Hewitt paced the Mountain Lions in the women's 800m, finishing in third place with a time of 2:22.06. Crossing line not far behind Hewitt were redshirt sophomore Rachel Goodrich and redshirt junior Erika Timbang in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with times of 2:24.18 and 2:24.48.
- On the men's side, freshman Alex Herman was the top Mountain Lion finisher in the 800m as he clocked a time of 1:59.42 to finish in fourth place. Redshirt sophomore Justin Banta competed in his first outdoor 800m and posted a strong time of 1:59.87 to finish fifth, while redshirt sophomore Adam Maal notched a time of 2:03.85 to finish 12th overall.

- The Mountain Lions will be back in action on Sunday, April 23, as they travel to Fort Collins, Colo., to compete at the Fum McGraw Power Meet hosted by Colorado State University.
