TEMECULA, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team opened their third tournament of the spring season Monday afternoon, scoring a 328 (+40) in round one of the San Marcos Shootout, placing them 11
th overall. California State University San Marcos is hosting the two-round, 11-team tournament at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course in Temecula, Calif.

FROM THE TEE
- Emily Shimkus carded a 78 (+6) in the opening round and is tied for 18th overall. She came out with a strong front nine, shooting a two-over par and finished the round sinking 12 pars.
- Sitting in a tie for 41st place with an 11-over par 83 are Kaya Kshatriya and Rachel Penzenstadler. After posting four straight pars on the front nine, Kshatriya registered the first birdie of the day for the Mountain Lions on par 4 hole 10. Penzenstadler carded a +7 on the front nine but settled in on the back nine, shooting a 40 (+4) which was highlighted by a birdie on hole 14.
- Completing the scoring for the Mountain Lions is Olivia Florence (T46). Florence put down an 84 on her scorecard, tallying a +6 on each half of the course with seven total birdies.
- UCCS' non-scorer in round one is Samantha Saile. She registered six pars and shot an 89 to settle in at 59th place.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Simon Fraser University holds a four-stroke lead over Point Loma University to claim a spot on top of the 11-team leaderboard after notching a 300 (+12) today.
- PLU's Alli Kim leads all 61 golfers with an even par 72.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- The Mountain Lions are seventh in the tournament in par 5 scoring (5.50, +10), 10th in par 3 (3.65, +13) and par 4 scoring (4.68, +34), and 11th in birdies (three).
- Shimkus owns a team best 12 pars and she is tied for 13th in par 4 scoring (4.30, +3).
