HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore forward Maison White put the Mountain Lions on the scoreboard after she made a jumper under the basket to even the score at 2-2. Two possessions later Breelyn Robinson gave the Mountain Lions their first lead of the game after draining a three-pointer from near the left center of the arc putting UCCS up, 5-4. Both teams traded leads four times in the opening stanza as the ThunderWolves did not have an answer for White. CSUP took a 23-19 lead after 10 minutes of action as White scored 16 of UCCS' 19 points. She made 7-of-8 from the floor with all seven field goals coming under the basket, and she hit on both free throw attempts.
- UCCS started the second quarter netting the first five points behind buckets from Rylie Ottmann and Gracie Haneborg. Agar Farres chased down her an offensive rebound from her own missed shot that eventually led to a three-pointer from Haneborg, followed by two made free throws from Ottmann and a 24-23 UCCS lead. The Mountain Lions lead didn't last long as the Pack's Daeja Johnson made a layup on the next trip down the floor. On the back half of the second quarter, Robinson connected with Farres for a layup to cut the ThunderWolves lead down to one, 27-26, with 3:49 remaining. Farres then scooped up a defensive rebound on CSUP's ensuing possession that led to a jumper from Talia DePetrillo and a 28-27 UCCS lead. Two free throws from the Pack gave the home team the lead back but Farres kept working on the boards, picking up another defensive rebound that she took to the other end of the court for a layup. Farres kept up the defensive pressure, blocking a Pack jump shot on their next trip down the court that led to a layup from Emily Hovasse and a 32-29 lead. UCCS held a 32-31 lead at halftime after the Pack made two free throws with 36 seconds left in the half.
- The Mountain Lions held the ThunderWolves to just eight points in the second quarter on 2-of-16 field goals as half of the Pack's points came from the free throw line (4-of-4).
- Trailing by one point at intermission, the ThunderWolves came out of halftime on the offensive attack, scoring the first nine points and forcing UCCS to call a timeout after the Pack took a 40-32 lead. White snapped the scoring spree with her ninth basket of the game, but both teams would go nearly two minutes without a point before White pulled in an offensive rebounds and put it back for two. Down by six points, Ottmann drove the lane for two to cut into the home team's lead, 42-38, but the Pack's lead expanded to nine points, 49-40, as they went on a 7-2 run. Ottmann had the last say in the quarter as she took an inbound pass and drove three-quarters of the court to make a left-handed layup as time expired, brining UCCS within seven, 49-42.
- The final quarter started with both teams trading baskets on four possessions as White netted four straight points for UCCS. After securing an offensive rebound, White drew a foul that led to a set piece as Ottmann hit a huge three from downtown, bringing UCCS with in two, 51-49. Ottmann's three-point splash was short-lived as the Pack went on a 10-2 run highlighted by two treys from the home team and a 61-51 lead with 5:05 left in regulation. Robinson pushed the ball on the fast break, drawing a foul and netting both free throws followed by a jumper on the next trip down the court, but the Pack put the game away after going on a 12-0 run and a 20-point lead with 75 ticks left in the game.
