Outside hitter Rylee Hladky of Metropolitan State University of Denver has been selected as the 2023 RMAC Volleyball Academic Player of the Year.
The RMAC All-Academic First Team and Academic Player of the Year awards are voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration on the RMAC All-Academic First Team, a student-athlete must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters and carry a cumulative 3.50 grade point average (GPA). All student-athletes that met those requirements but were not selected for the First Team, or have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30, automatically qualify for the Honor Roll.
The sophomore setter from Colorado Springs, Colo., Barela saw action in all 26 matches this season and was in the starting lineup in 16 matches. She led the team in assists with 574 and she ranked 10
th in the league in assists per set (6.38). Barela contributed 27 kills and served up eight aces while digging up 134 attacks and adding 11 blocks. A Health Care Science major with a 3.930 GPA, she posted career highs on Sept. 22 at New Mexico Highlands University with five kills and 19 attacks. Barela ended the season on a high note with a career best 59 assists at Adams State University on Nov. 11 in a 3-2 road win.
