HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauryn Shockley started the evening off with three straight kills for the Mountain Lions to put the black and gold on the scoreboard, 3-1.  The Mountain Lions lead was erased after a 5-0 run by the ThunderWolves.  Down 6-3, UCCS called a timeout and came out of the break scoring four of the next five points to tie the set at 7-7 after Shockley and Sydnee Walker put down back-to-back kills.  Four rallies later, the set was tied again at nine-all, but another 6-1 run by the blue and red gave the home team a 15-10 lead they would not squander.  The Pack's Sadie Scoville ended the set, 25-18, with two straight kills.  Shockley led UCCS with five of the team's 13 kills.  The ThunderWolves were near flawless at the net, posting 18 kills and committing only one attacking error for a .486 hitting mark.
  • Despite facing an early 5-2 deficit in the second stanza, the Mountain Lions continued to battle against the ThunderWolves and clawed back after a 7-0 run.  UCCS gathered kills from Joei Barela, Walker and Nicole Medlin and added blocks from Medlin and Walker as part of the 7-0 run that gave them a 9-5 lead they would not relinquish.  The ThunderWolves were able to get within two points of UCCS late in the set, 19-17, but the Mountain Lions kept the Pack in check and ended the set on a 6-1 run as Mackenzie Ransom served two aces, Julia Geiger and Shockley blocked an attack, and CSUP committed two errors before a kill from Shockley ended the set, 25-18, and tied the match at 1-1.
  • The third stanza featured three scoring ties in the early part of the action but a 4-0 run by the Mountain Lions broke a 3-3 tie after Medlin and Raegen Emery paired up for a block, followed by an ace delivery from Emery and kills from Medlin and Walker.  UCCS controlled the set and held at least a three-point advantage over the ThunderWolves until the home team stormed back.  CSU Pueblo swallowed up a 22-16 lead by UCCS and went on a 7-1 run.  The Pack used two kills, two blocks and three UCCS errors to knot the set at 23-23.  Two more scoring ties in the set ended when CSUP's Scoville notched a kill before an ace ended the set in favor of CSUP, 27-25.
