Nicole Medlin had a career night to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team to a 3-2 win Saturday evening at Adams State University. The win snaps a six-match losing streak and ends the Mountain Lions season at 8-18 overall and 6-8 in league matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a tightly contested match through all five sets, the opening set of the evening set the tone with eight scoring ties. UCCS broke free of the Grizzlies halfway through the set using a 5-1 run to take a 19-14 lead. Sydnee Walker and Lauryn Shockley put down kills during the 5-1 run while UCCS took advantage of three Grizzlies errors. Medlin led UCCS to the 25-20 win after blocking an attack and adding two kills for the final three points of the set.
- In the second set of the evening, neither team led by more than three points through the entire set. The Mountain Lions found themselves down 24-21 before UCCS turned on the jets and received kills from Shockley, Walker and Raegen Emery to help UCCS regain the lead, 25-24, but ASU put the set away scoring the final three points on two kills and a UCCS error to even the match at 1-1.
- The Mountain Lions used a 7-2 run in the third stanza to overcome a 14-12 deficit. Walker accounted for four kills to help UCCS take a 19-16 lead. The Mountain Lions cruised to the 25-22 win behind two kills from Emery and a kill from Geiger to end the set.
- ASU broke a 13-13 tie in the fourth period and snagged an 18-13 lead they would keep the rest of the set to tie the match again, 2-2. UCCS produced more kills, 13-11, but the home team hit .280 to UCCS' .125 and blocked six attacks.
- The fifth set was no different than the fourth set as both teams battled tight. Medlin, Shockley and Emery each tallied a kill to snap an 8-8 tie and post an 11-9 lead. With Adams State serving and UCCS holding on to set point, 14-13, Ransom received the set that set up Joei Barela who set the ball to Medlin who then delivered the match-winning kill from the right side, 15-13.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Four Mountain Lions accounted for double digit kills. Medlin led both teams with 25 kills to go with three solo blocks for 28 points.
- Emery chipped in 15 kills, three solo blocks and 12 digs. Shockley added one of three double-double performances behind 14 kills and 17 digs.
- Walker tallied 10 kills, 13 digs and 10 points.
- Barela set the Mountain Lions for 59 kills as the team finished with 65 assists and 72 kills.
- UCCS posted 16 more kills than ASU, 72-56, and outhit the black and green, .228 percent to .206 percent.
- ASU held the advantage in blocks, 13-9, and aces, 3-0.
- Anna Huggins and Cindy Garcia combined for 35 of the Grizzlies 56 kills.
- Tonight's match featured 40 scoring ties and 15 lead changes.

- The Mountain Lions went 3-3 in five set matches this season.
- UCCS set several season and five-set match highs tonight with 72 kills, 184 total attacks and 65 assists.
- Medlin had a career night with 25 kills, 48 attacks and three solo blocks.
- Medlin's 25 kills and 28 points are individual season highs for UCCS, while Barela set a career high 59 assists that also marks a season high.
- Shockley caps off her six-year career at UCCS ranked in the top-10 of the UCCS record books in several categories, including matches played (first, 127), sets played (tied-second, 464), kills (third, 1159), total attacks (fourth, 3306), points (fifth, 1344), aces (tied-fifth, 106) and matches started (sixth, 97).
- Shockley also finishes her career with 24 double-doubles.
