Volleyball Drops Home Opener to CSU Pueblo, 3-1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team returned home to play in front of the Gallogly Events Center crowd Tuesday night for the first time in the 2022 season. Ultimately, the Mountain Lions fell to Colorado State University Pueblo in four sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions grabbed an early advantage, leading 3-1 thanks to two kills from Hannah Ammerman. The ThunderWolves responded by notching 15 kills while hitting at a .387 clip to take the first set, 25-21.
  • To open the second set, both teams traded points to even the score at 10 apiece. Following Nicole Medlin's first kill at Gallogly Events Center, UCCS went on a 15-6 run to even the match at one set each. The Mountain Lions recorded their highest attack percentage of the match (.423) thanks to four kills from Ammerman and Raegan Emery.
  • CSUP got off to a quick 4-3 lead, never trailing for the remainder of the set. The ThunderWolves recorded an impressive eight blocks along with two service aces to grab the third set by a score of 25-19.
  • The ThunderWolves kept the momentum, scoring the first four points of the set. With an attack percentage of .440, CSUP rolled to a 25-13 victory, winning the match in four sets.
 
MATCH STATISTICS
  • Ammerman posted a match high 18 kills to go along with seven digs. Emery chipped in with 13 kills, with Julia Geiger recorded 12. Reilly Babcock tallied a match high 32 assists.
  • The Mountain Lions dug up 47 attacks, with Babcock and Jordyn Kinsey each recorded 11.
  • Medlin assisted on two blocks and had four kills.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • With 11 digs tonight, Kinsey moves into fourth in the career record books for digs. She currently sits at 1,476 career digs, needing 213 to take sole possession of third all-time (Laura Meeter, 1,688 digs).
  • Kinsey also recorded a career high in assists (eight).
  • Babcock dug up a career high 11 attacks in four sets.
  • Ammerman was one kill shy of tying her career high of 19.
  • The Thunderwolves have now won five straight matches against UCCS.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will be back at home on Saturday, Sept. 10th to face the 23rd ranked Regis Rangers. The action will start at 2 p.m.
