GOLDEN, Colo. – Playing their final match of the opening weekend, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team lost in three sets to Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday morning at the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers Classic in Golden, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With both teams playing their final match of the weekend, UCCS and Humboldt battled through a tightly contested opening set, combining for six scoring ties before either team reached 10 points. A Mountain Lion error gave the Lumberjacks their first lead of the set at 9-8, and Humboldt extended its advantage to 14-10 with a 6-2 run. UCCS responded with a 5-0 run, sparked by three Humboldt errors and a kill from Sydney Hyde. Hyde then teamed with Aubrey Miller for a block to give the Mountain Lions a 17-16 lead and force a Humboldt timeout. The Lumberjacks regained the lead late in the set, but UCCS rallied from a 22-19 deficit as Nicole Himebauch and Hyde recorded consecutive kills to tie the set at 24-24 and force Humboldt to use its second timeout. Out of the timeout, two UCCS errors gave the Lumberjacks a 26-24 win in the opening set.
- UCCS took an early 2-1 lead in the second set before Humboldt responded with a 6-1 run to take a 7-3 advantage. The Mountain Lions cut the deficit to two, 7-5, after Addison Humphrey set up kills from Tompkins and Himebauch, but the Lumberjacks answered with a 4-1 run to extend their lead to 11-6. UCCS continued to battle and, trailing 23-20 late in the set, Miller assisted Himebauch on three consecutive kills to even the score at 23-23. Humboldt closed out the set with a kill from Isabella Hartwig, followed by a block assist from Hartwig, to secure a 25-23 victory.
- The third set remained close early, with the two teams trading leads. Himebauch's service ace tied the set at 6-6, but Humboldt regained the lead on the following rally and maintained the advantage the rest of the way. UCCS pulled even at 16-16 on two kills from Hyde and another from Tompkins, but the Lumberjacks quickly reclaimed the lead. Humboldt went on to close out the set and complete the three-set sweep of the Mountain Lions in UCCS' final match of the weekend.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Tompkins posted her third double-double on the weekend, finishing the match with 10 kills and 15
- Hyde tied Tompkins for match high honors with 10 kills. She hit a solid .409 after committing just one error on 22 attempts.
- Miller accounted for 30 of UCCS' 40 assists while adding an ace.
- Himebauch added nine kills and hit .278 while serving an ace.
- The Mountain Lions edged the Lumberjacks in kills (44-42) and aces (4-2), while Humboldt bettered UCCS in hitting percentage (.398 to .339), digs (45-42), and blocks (6-4).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 3-0 sweep this morning is the first time UCCS has been swept this season.
- Sydni Lafasciano posted career highs in digs (nine) and hitting percentage (.240).
- Miller served her first career ace on Saturday, and attempted a career-high seven attacks.

- The Mountain Lions will open their home season on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Michigan Tech University.
