Mountain Lions Bounce Back at Home to Defeat ASU 3-1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs took the court for their annual White Out Night against Adams State University Friday night. One of the best attacking games in program history propelled the Mountain Lions to their first conference win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hannah Ammerman opened the game up with one of her seven first-set kills. An 8-0 run behind the service of Joei Barela put the set out of reach.  UCCS notched an impressive 21 kills, attacking at a .613 clip to take the first set.
  • The second set was tightly contested with 11 ties and six lead changes. Service aces from Reilly Babcock and Mackenzie Ransom fueled UCCS to win nine of the last 15 points, taking the second set by the score of 25-21.
  • Down two sets, the Grizzlies came out strong, scoring five points in a row to force an early UCCS timeout. The Mountain Lions brought the score deficit to three points, but could not find consistent momentum. UCCS recorded four blocks and tallied 12 kills, but fell in the third set, 20-25.
  • With the score sitting at 12-10, UCCS used their home crowd to take over the match. Babcock served 10 straight points, with three kills from Nicole Medlin, to bury the Grizzlies and win the fourth and final set, 25-15.
 
MATCH STATISTICS
  • Raegen Emery posted a match high 14 kills with one dig and one block assist. Ammerman and Medlin turned in double digit kills with 13 and 11, respectively.
  • UCCS dug up 50 ASU attacks. Leading the way was Jordyn Kinsey who recorded a match high 17 digs.
  • Medlin recorded three solo blocks and four block assists, both were a match-high.
  • Babcock led the match with three service aces. Ransom also added two aces of her own.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tonight's attack percentage of .348 was the second highest in school history for a four-set match.  
  • Medlin had a career high .625 hitting percentage (11 kills on 16 attempts) and a career high three solo blocks.
  • Tori Perduk posted a career high four block assists.
  • Emery tallied a career high .500 hitting percentage, with 14 kills on 24 attempts.
  • Tara Hittle records her first career conference win as head coach of the Mountain Lions.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will be back home tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 24) to take on New Mexico Highlands University at 3 p.m.
