Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep, Defeats NMHU 3-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team were back in action on Saturday afternoon taking on the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands University. The Mountain Lions only trailed twice across the three sets of action en route to their first sweep in conference play this season.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Fresh off her career night, Nicole Medlin kicked off the match with one of her two first set kills. Four different Mountain Lions registered multiple kills in the set and Joei Barela recorded two service aces. UCCS held strong, taking the first set 25-20.
  • Reilly Babcock came out firing in the second set, serving six straight points to give UCCS an early lead. NMHU made a strong push late in the set, taking their first lead of the match with the score at 19-20. Multiple errors from the Cowgirls paired with kills from Hannah Ammerman switched the momentum back to UCCS to put the Mountain Lions up 2-0 in the match.
  • The third set belonged to Raegen Emery who recorded seven of her match high 11 kills in what would be the match's final set. Following an ace from Babcock, UCCS took a commanding 24-17 lead that sparked a final push from NMHU. Keegan Lopez recorded three aces as part of an 8-0 run to give the Cowgirls a 25-24 lead. UCCS responded by taking the next three points, punctuated by an Emery kill that gave the Mountain Lions a three-set sweep. 
    MATCH STATISTICS
  • Emery once again posted a match high in kills with 11, while also recording two digs and two blocks.
  • Medlin recorded a match high six block assists to go with eight kills and one dig.
  • Babcock dug up a team high 10 NMHU attacks, registering 26 assists and four kills of her own.
  • UCCS recorded five service aces, with Babcock and Barela scoring two apiece.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • This marks the first three set win in conference play for the Mountain Lions this season.
  • Babcock leads the RMAC in service aces with 27 (0.55 per set).
  • Medlin had 13 blocks this weekend and is sitting at fifth in the RMAC in blocks per set (1.08).
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will begin a six-match road trip on Tuesday, September 27th as they travel to face CSU Pueblo at 7 p.m.
