Mountain Lions Fall to ThunderWolves in Four Sets

PUEBLO, Colo. – A two-match winning streak by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team was broken Tuesday night as the Mountain Lions fell on the road to Colorado State University Pueblo, 3-1, inside Massari Arena.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPoread
  • Final: 1-3 (20-25, 13-25, 25-17, 14-25)
  • Records: UCCS (7-8, 2-5 RMAC) | CSUP (13-2, 6-1 RMAC)
  • Facility | Location:  Massari Arena | Pueblo, Colo.
  • All-Time Series vs. CSUP: After six straight wins by the ThunderWolves, the Mountain Lions hold on to a 31-30 all-time series lead over CSUP.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hannah Ammerman served up two straight aces in the opening set to give UCCS their first lead, 4-2.  UCCS' lead grew to four after forcing the ThunderWolves to commit three straight attacking errors for a 7-3 lead.  A kill by Reilly Babcock gave the Mountain Lions a 9-5 lead, but the home team battled back to score four of the last five points of the set to take a 1-0 match lead (25-20).
  • The ThunderWolves kept their momentum going into the second stanza, serving two aces, blocking a UCCS attack and forcing an attack error to snag a quick 4-0 lead. The Mountain Lions were unable to regain the deficit as CSUP held the lead the entire set, holding UCCS to eight kills and a -.067 hitting percentage.
  • UCCS fought back in set three to avoid the sweep.  An ace from Mackenzie Ransom, followed by a CSUP attack error and a Julia Geiger kill gave the Mountain Lions a 5-2 lead.  UCCS held the lead for most of the third set, forcing CSUP to take a timeout after the Pack served an error followed by Nicole Medlin's kill that put UCCS on top, 16-14.  UCCS forced the ThunderWovles to burn another timeout when the Pack committed an attack error before the duos of Medlin/Perduk and Medlin/Ammerman paired up to block to straight attacks, giving UCCS a 19-15 advantage.  Late in the set, Medlin put down two straight kills that led to an ace from Ammerman.  After Ammerman's ace, Medlin and Perduk paired up to block a CSUP attack before Perduk put the finishing touches on the set win with a kill, 25-17.
  • Perduk started the fourth set with a kill to give UCCS a 1-0 lead, but the lead didn't last as CSUP went on a 7-3 run to take a four-point lead, 8-4.  The ThunderWolves held onto the lead the remaining part of the set as they finished with 17 kills and a .538 hitting mark.
