COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Medicine Ashley Klug has announced the addition of Isabella Lopez and Tillie Schuhart to the UCCS athletic training staff as Assistant Athletic Trainers.

"I am very excited to add Izzee and Tillie to our team," said Klug. "Izzee has years of RMAC experience, and I am thrilled to keep her in the conference. Tillie was an athletic training student here at UCCS and did her immersive experience with us. We saw how well she fit into our team, and I am very excited to get the chance to add her enthusiasm to our staff."

Lopez joins the Mountain Lion family as a 2018 graduate from Colorado State University Pueblo with her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and an emphasis in Athletic Training. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Lopez went on to obtain her Master of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Corrective Exercise in June 2020 from A.T. Still University.

The Colorado native began her career as an Athletic Training intern at NCAA Division I Alabama A&M University, providing primary coverage for the Bulldogs' women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis, and bowling teams during the 2018-19 season. Lopez then returned to her alma mater, CSU Pueblo, as an athletic training intern for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, where she was the primary athletic trainer for the women's lacrosse, men's soccer, cheer, and dance teams. In August 2021, Lopez was hired as a full-time athletic trainer at CSU Pueblo, providing coverage for the Thunderwolves' men's soccer, men's basketball, and women's basketball teams while also serving as a preceptor for the CSU Pueblo Athletic Training Masters program.

Throughout her tenure at CSU Pueblo, Lopez also served as an independent contractor providing athletic training services for a variety of events, including the US Club Soccer National Cup Finals, Air Force Academy Youth Camps, USA Rugby Collegiate 7s National Qualifier, Palmer High School Club Rugby, CSU Pueblo Football Camps, CHSCA All-State games, CHSAA Football State Championships, and USA Ultimate Masters National Championship.

"I'm excited to join the Mountain Lion family and continue my career in Colorado," commented Lopez. "It is my top priority to provide exceptional healthcare to UCCS student-athletes. I hope to have a positive impact in the community and contribute to the growth of the athletics department."

No stranger to Colorado Springs, Schuhart completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at UCCS, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Science in the spring of 2020 before completing her Master of Science in Athletic Training in the spring of 2022. Throughout the course of her graduate program, Schuhart received athletic training experience at multiple institutions, including Falcon High School, Lewis Palmer High School, Fountain Fort Carson High School, and the United States Air Force Academy. Most recently, she spent the 2022 winter and spring seasons assisting current UCCS athletic trainer Cherise Endres with providing athletic training coverage for the Mountain Lion women's soccer and women's lacrosse programs.

"I have always had a passion for athletics growing up and my passion for athletic training continues to grow throughout my career," stated Schuhart. "The world of sport brings people together to create an inclusive and diverse community that is so rewarding to be a part of. I am greatly looking forward to becoming part of the UCCS athletics community and making a difference in our athlete's lives!"

Lopez and Schuhart began their positions with the UCCS athletic training staff on Monday, Aug. 1. Lopez is set to serve as the primary athletic trainer for men's soccer, men's basketball, and women's basketball, while Schuhart will primarily oversee volleyball and softball.
