Moreni Headlines Day Two of NCAA Outdoor Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore hurdler Melissa Moreni highlighted the second day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships as she posted a strong performance in the women's 100m hurdle to advance to the event final tomorrow afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Competing in the first NCAA Outdoor Championship meet of her career, Moreni clocked a blazing time of 13.85s in the women's 100m hurdle to finish sixth overall and qualify for the event final that will begin at 12:55 p.m. (MT) tomorrow afternoon.
  • At the triple jump, redshirt senior Hannah Meek was the lone UCCS student-athlete in action as she leaped to a mark of 11.76m to take 19th place in the women's triple jump.
  • Redshirt senior Kayla Zink, a national qualifier in the 200m dash for the first time in her outdoor career, clocked a time of 24.54s in the women's 200m preliminary race to cross the line in 21st place.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • By virtue of finishing among the top nine competitors in the women's 100m hurdle and qualifying for the event final, Moreni is guaranteed to recieve All-America honors following tomorrow's competition. The top eight finishers in the race will earn First Team All-America honors, while the ninth finisher and the No, 10-12 finishers in the preliminary race will take home Second Team All-America accolades.

  • The Mountain Lions will have ten student-athletes in action on the third and final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. (MT).
