Mountain Lions Close Regular Season with 10th Place Finish at WT Desert Invite

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team wrapped up the regular season Tuesday afternoon with a 10th place finish at the West Texas A&M Desert Invite, held at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon.  UCCS compiled a two-day total 637 after opening the tournament with a 313 on Monday and finishing with a 324 today.

FROM THE TEE
  • Emily Shimkus led UCCS for the second straight day and finished 13th overall.  After recording 10 pars and four birdies in the opening round for an even-par, Shimkus drained nine pars today and made two birdies.  She made birdie on her first hole of the day (par 4, hole No. 4), and birdied her last hole of the day (par 4, hole No. 3).
  • Shaving six strokes off yesterday's round of 82, Julia Baroth made par on 12 holes on Tuesday and finished tied for 29th overall with a 158.  Baroth strung together five straight pars and added a stretch of four pars and a birdie, recording a 38 on each half of the course.
  • Six of Dakotah Kreil's 11 pars in the tournament came today.  Kreil placed 42nd (tied) overall with a 162 (77, 85).
  • Wrapping up the Mountain Lions scorers was Jordyn Allen, who finished in a tie for 58th place.  Kreil shot an 83 in the second round, just one more stroke than Monday's round of 82, compiling a two-round total of (165).
  • Olivia Florence registered a 90 and 104 in each round, placing fifth for UCCS and 95th overall (194).
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Host team West Texas A&M won the 18-team tournament.  The Buffs finished with a 14-over par 590, including the only sub-300 round by any team in the tournament, scoring a 287 today.
  • Academy of Art Anahi Servin held her lead from round one, winning the individual crown with a two-under par 142 (69, 73).
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • Emily Shimkus tied for a tournament best in Par 4 scoring (4.05) and she tied for the second most birdies in the field (six).
  • Today's round of 324 and the 637 tournament score are the highest marks for UCCS this season.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will head back to Arizona for their third tournament in the Sunshine State this month when they compete in the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.  The three-day, three-round tournament will be held at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
