COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a tightly contested Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team came up just short to the visiting Colorado Mesa University Mavericks Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium, 19-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kiley Davis and Taylor Jakeman put the Mavericks up 2-0 in the first two minutes to open Sunday's match. Almost three minutes later Annalise Carr found Hannah Mill to give UCCS their first score of the game at 9:38 in the first quarter.
- Jakeman found the back of the net 30 seconds after Mill's goal but the Mountain Lions retaliated scoring three straight goals from Holly Sodomka, Regan Olson and Mill to snag their first lead of the game, 4-3. CMU's Brianna Anderson knotted the game but Mill had the last say of the opening quarter, netting her third score to give UCCS the lead again, 5-4.
- The Mountain Lions lead grew to three goals, 7-4, after Natalie Church scored an unassisted goal at 13:50 in the second stanza and then assisted Mill for her fourth score of the afternoon.
- The Mavericks were held scoreless for more than eight minutes before netting three straight goals for the third tie of the game, 7-7. Church tallied her third assist of the game when she found Julia Patrick with 2:15 left in the half as both teams went into intermission tied at 8-8.
- UCCS and CMU came out of halftime scoring a combined five goals in the third quarter as each team alternated goals. With three quarters under wraps, the Mavericks held a slight 11-10 lead heading into the final stanza.
- The Mountain Lions and Mavericks exploded in the fourth quarter to score a total of 13 goals. Trailing 12-10, Hannah Koopal netted a player-up goal at 10:37 followed by Carr's game-tying goal just over a minute later. Down by two goals again with less than six minutes left in regulation, Chloe Harding scooped up a ball 10 feet in front of the goal and put it past the goalie. Thirty seconds later she knotted the game at 15-15 on a free-position goal.
- Harding's goal would be the final score for the Mountain Lions as the Mavericks took advantage of UCCS penalties, scoring four straight player-up goals in a two-minute span to take the win, 19-15.
GAME STATISTICS
- Mill recorded her third straight hat trick behind five goals for a team high five points. She also attempted a team high seven shots.
- Four Mountain Lions scored multiple goals this afternoon. Patrick, Olson and Harding each netted two goals while Church added four points with three assists and a score.
- Leading the defense was Morgan Miller with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Avery Beck-Davis chipped in three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Audrey Napp, Patrick and Church each won three draws as UCCS finished the game with 13 draw controls.
- Madison McGriff played all 60 minutes in goal, stopping 10 of 29 shots on goal and picking up four ground balls.
- CMU's Jakeman came off the bench to lead all scorers with seven goals and nine shots.
- The Mavericks edged UCCS in shots (39-28), ground balls (27-24), and draws (25-13) while UCCS forced CMU into 17 turnovers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game featured nine ties and two lead changes.
- Today's setback snapped a five-game winning streak for the Mountain Lions.
- The 34 combined goals are the most since UCCS defeated Ashland on March 12, 2020, 24-17 (41 goals).
- Mill has consecutively scored one, two, three, four and five goals in each game this season. Her five goals and seven shots on goal match season highs for the Mountain Lions.
UP NEXT
- After playing seven of their first nine games of the season at home, the Mountain Lions will begin a four-game road trip, beginning next weekend at Fort Lewis College and Adams State University on April 8 and April 10, respectively.
