HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kiley Davis and Taylor Jakeman put the Mavericks up 2-0 in the first two minutes to open Sunday's match. Almost three minutes later Annalise Carr found Hannah Mill to give UCCS their first score of the game at 9:38 in the first quarter.
  • Jakeman found the back of the net 30 seconds after Mill's goal but the Mountain Lions retaliated scoring three straight goals from Holly Sodomka, Regan Olson and Mill to snag their first lead of the game, 4-3.  CMU's Brianna Anderson knotted the game but Mill had the last say of the opening quarter, netting her third score to give UCCS the lead again, 5-4.
  • The Mountain Lions lead grew to three goals, 7-4, after Natalie Church scored an unassisted goal at 13:50 in the second stanza and then assisted Mill for her fourth score of the afternoon.
  • The Mavericks were held scoreless for more than eight minutes before netting three straight goals for the third tie of the game, 7-7.  Church tallied her third assist of the game when she found Julia Patrick with 2:15 left in the half as both teams went into intermission tied at 8-8.
  • UCCS and CMU came out of halftime scoring a combined five goals in the third quarter as each team alternated goals.  With three quarters under wraps, the Mavericks held a slight 11-10 lead heading into the final stanza.
  • The Mountain Lions and Mavericks exploded in the fourth quarter to score a total of 13 goals.  Trailing 12-10, Hannah Koopal netted a player-up goal at 10:37 followed by Carr's game-tying goal just over a minute later. Down by two goals again with less than six minutes left in regulation, Chloe Harding scooped up a ball 10 feet in front of the goal and put it past the goalie.  Thirty seconds later she knotted the game at 15-15 on a free-position goal.
  • Harding's goal would be the final score for the Mountain Lions as the Mavericks took advantage of UCCS penalties, scoring four straight player-up goals in a two-minute span to take the win, 19-15.
