Mountain Lions Post Strong Second Round at RMAC Championship Tournament

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Three Mountain Lions are sitting in the top five slots after a strong performance by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team at the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.  The Mountain Lions shot a 296 today in the second round of the tournament and are currently in second place with a 596 (300, 296), just four strokes behind the leader, Colorado Christian University.

FROM THE TEE
  • Julia Baroth fired off a three-under par today (69) to take sole possession of the individual leaderboard.  Baroth, who scored a 71 yesterday and holds a five-stroke lead over second place with a two-round total of 140 (four-under par), brought her two day total to seven birdies and 26 pars.  She started the second round making three birdies on her first five holes (No. 1, No. 3, No. 5) to record a three-under par on the front nine.  She added a birdie on hole No. 16 for her fourth of the day.
  • Tied for fourth place are Dakotah Kreil and Emily Shimkus as each own a 148.  Kreil carded a 77 on Monday after starting the tournament with a 71.  She drained her fourth bridie of the tournament after sinking one on hole No. 11.  Shimkus took off two strokes from yesterday's opening round of 75.  After shooting a three-over par on the front nine, Shimkus bounced back to score a two-under par on the back nine that featured birdies on three of her final five holes (No. 14, No. 16, No. 18).
  • Rounding out the Mountain Lions scorers is Samantha Saile who improved by six strokes today.  Saile, who had a stretch of seven straight pars today, is tied for 29th overall with a 160 (83, 77).
  • Jordyn Allen recorded the biggest improvement from round one to round two, taking seven strokes off today.  She posted an 85 on Sunday and dropped to 78 today to move up to 33rd place with a 163.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Baroth's three-under par 69 is the second lowest score in program history.  She leads all 59 golfers with a 140.
  • Colorado Christian maintains their 12-team lead with a two-round total of 592.  CCU chipped in a 293 on Monday after starting the three-round tournament with a 300.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • Today's round of 296 is the lowest round this season and the third lowest round ever in program history, and are six strokes off the program record of 290 (March 25, 2018 at CSUP Pack Spring Invite).
  • The Mountain Lions lead the field in Par 3 scoring (3.00), Par 4 scoring (4.26) and the most birdies (24).
  • Baroth is the individual leader in Par 4 scoring (3.85) and birdies (seven).
  • Saile, Shimkus and Kreil are tied for second overall in Par 3 scoring (2.88), while Kreil and Shimkus have the third best Par 4 scoring record (4.10).
  • Shimkus' six birdies are the second most by any golfer in the field.

  • The third and final round will begin Tuesday morning.
