Mountain Lions Tied for Seventh after First Round of WNMU RJGA Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Competing in their first of three tournaments in Arizona this month, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team opened the RJGA Palm Valley Classic shooting a 303 and are tied for seventh place with Dominican.  Western New Mexico University is hosting the 28-team tournament at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

FROM THE TEE
  • Pacing the Mountain Lions after round one is Julia Baroth who is sitting in a tie for 13th place after posting a one-over par 73.  Baroth birdied her first hole of the day and finished the round hitting par or better on 16 holes.
  • Dakotah Kreil and Olivia Florence are both tied for 35th place after posting an opening score of 76.  After shooting three-over par on the front nine, Kreil rebounded to post a 37 on the back nine including a birdie on Par 5 hole No. 14.  Florence was reverse of Kreil, posting a 37 on the front nine followed by a 39.  Florence drained four birdies on the day, two of which came on par 5s.
  • Sharing scores for 62nd place are Emily Shimkus and Jordyn Allen who are six-over par with a 78.  Shimkus strung together six straight pars while Allen birdied par 5 hole No. 14 and par 3 hole No. 16.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
  • Cal State Monterey Bay leads all 28 teams with a one-under par 287.  Gam Singprasert of West Texas A&M and Isabel Carpenter of CSUMB are leading all 146 golfers after shooting a four-under par 68.
 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
  • UCCS leads the entire field in Par 5 scoring, boasting a 4.90 (-2).  The Mountain Lions are sixth overall in Pars after tallying 54.
  • Baroth is tied for second individually in pars (15), while Allen, Florence and Kreil are all tied for sixth place in Par 5 scoring (4.75, -1).
  • Today's score of 303 is the fifth best round of the season.

  • The second and final round of the Palm Valley Classic will conclude on Saturday.
