Inside The Matchup
Final: Game 1: UCCS 1, RU 4 | Game 2: UCCS 4, RU 3
Records: UCCS (9-7, 7-3 RMAC), RU (14-9, 9-1 RMAC)
Location: Mountain Lion Field | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions move to 45-88 all-time against the Rangers.
How It Happened | Game One
- It was a tough start for the Mountain Lions as they gave up three runs in the top of the first thanks to two Rangers home runs by Alisha Martinez and Rachel Williams. After escaping a bases-loaded jam with no runs allowed in the top of the second, Braelyne Crenshaw really settled in throwing five straight scoreless innings to keep the Mountain Lions in the game, remaining down 3-0.
- UCCS couldn't get anything going on the offensive end as Ranger's pitcher Kylie Harpman was locked in from the start. Things would be quiet on the offense for the most part besides a first and third jam in the bottom of the third inning.
- In the bottom of the sixth, UCCS finally broke the dam as Solana Martinez drove a two out triple down the right field line to give UCCS just their second runner on third base on the game. Sawyer Brewster would capitalize on that and drive her home with an RBI single to make it 3-1. Regis would answer in the top of the seventh via a solo home run by Katherine Raper to make the lead 4-1 for Regis.
Stats From The Game | Game One
- Martinez had herself a day in the field recording seven outs in seven opportunities.
- UCCS got outhit by Regis 7-4.
- Crenshaw settled in well after the first inning and ended with a strong line of seven innings pitched, six strikeouts, and four earned runs.
How It Happened | Game Two
- Both teams were able to score in the first inning as Regis lead off hitter Jessi Case drove the second pitch of the game out to right-center field to give the Rangers the initial 1-0 lead. However, that lead wouldn't last long as the Mountain Lions would strike back in the bottom of the frame on a White grand slam that just went over the top of the wall in left field to give the Mountain Lions their first lead of the double-header, 4-1.
- Regis would get one back in the top of the second inning to make the score 4-2. Both pitchers would dominate for innings 2-4, but Regis got some momentum in the top of the fifth inning getting bases loaded with just one out. Lexi Rayburn would step up and with a little help from her defense would retire the next two batters and get out of the inning with no runs allowed.
- Regis would mount a comeback effort in the top of the seventh thanks to Case's second home run of the game, but it wouldn't be enough as UCCS would hold on to win 4-3.
