Lopez Races to 400m Win at Air Force Collegiate Open

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track and field teams made the short trip to the Air Force Academy on Friday evening to compete at the Air Force Collegiate Open, where they recorded three podium finishes and an event win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions found success in the women's 400m race, led by freshman Alyssa Lopez who claimed a gold medal finish with a personal best time of 59.23. Redshirt junior Grace Wenham and redshirt sophomore Michela Hewitt each raced their way into the top-five as well with Wenham placing third at 1:00.42 and Hewitt coming in fifth at 1:00.78.
  • Redshirt sophomore Liz Bindert claimed another UCCS podium finish in the 800m, taking third place with a time of 2:24.61.
  • Moving to the women's mile, redshirt freshmen Rachel Richtman and Kelsey Rycenga were the fourth and fifth finishers, respectively, among the field of 22 competitors. Richtman crossed the line at 5:26.52, while Rycenga clocked a personal record time of 5:29.00.
  • Junior Ella McKinna-Worrell posted a PR in the women's 60m hurdle race, earning a fourth-place finish with a time of 9.39 seconds. On the men's side, junior Sam Repsher was the first Mountain Lion to complete the race, finishing in 8.68 seconds for fifth place. McKinna-Worrell came back to compete in the women's high jump, where she matched freshman Hailee O'Neill in clearing 1.55m.
  • Freshman Chase Monestime led the way for UCCS in the men's 60m dash, finishing ninth at 7.09 seconds. Monestime then came back to pace the men's team in the 200m as he raced to an indoor personal record 23.14 seconds to place 11th.
  • In the men's shot put, freshman Jarell Lucas earned a fourth-place finish with a heave of 15.74m to surpass his personal best mark.
  • At the pole vault runway, Holden Daniels was the highest men's finisher for the Mountain Lions as he cleared a height of 4.40m, while freshman Alison Van Dyke vaulted 3.35m for a fifth-place finish.

  • The Mountain Lions will round out their regular season schedule tomorrow as they send a small group of distance athletes to compete at the Mines Twilight.
