No. 19 UCCS Falls to No. 9 Mines in Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

GOLDEN, Colo. – No. 19 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team's postseason came to an end on Sunday as the Mountain Lions fell short to No. 9 nationally ranked and No. 2 seeded Colorado School of Mines in the second round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament at a final score of 2-1.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: #19 UCCS 1, #9 Mines 2
Records: UCCS (14-4-4, 9-1-2 RMAC), Mines (17-1-3, 10-0-2 RMAC)
Location: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.
Series: UCCS and Mines have matched up in a total of 26 matches all-time with the Mountain Lions trailing in the series at a record of 7-17-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The scoring started right out of the gate with Colorado School of Mines striking first in the opening minute. The Orediggers dispossessed the Mountain Lions near midfield with a pass then finding Reese McDermott on the Mountain Lions' defending half that she finished to put UCCS in a 1-0 deficit just 35 seconds into the match.
• The Mountain Lions followed suit it in the 16th minute and got on the board in the blink of an eye as Zoe Sims gathered a pass on the near side at midfield and sent a deep pass to an open Kaitlin Hinkle who allowed the pass to bounce once in the box before slipping a one-timer inside the far post for the equalizer, making it 1-1.
With the match all squared, UCCS' defending midfield and backline didn't allow another Oredigger shot on frame as the Mountain Lions nearly entered the half with a 2-1 lead after freshman Emily Aguilar connected a shot off the right woodwork at the 43:03 mark, keeping the match notched at 1-1 heading into the break.
Out of the intermission, Jadyn LeDoux and the Mountain Lions kept the pressure on Mines with the sophomore accounting for the team's first two shots in the half, including a shot on goal that came from the far side and clipped left woodwork to just miss out on the go-ahead score in the 52nd minute.
• As the game approached the 70th minute, the match turned in favor of the Orediggers as a missed header off a cross in the box worked to the opposite side of the pitch where Ellise Putnam sent a shot back across frame into the right side of net to give Mines the 2-1 lead at the 69:15 mark.
• Needing to make something happen, the Mountain Lions managed to keep the ball on the attacking half of the field for what was a majority of the final 20 minutes as UCCS notched six shots and three shots on goal with their best opportunity coming off the left foot of LeDoux that Mines' Sadie Wolf made a diving save on in the 84th minute. That then led to a corner kick opportunity that resulted in two Annie Louthan Shots, but neither were able to find the back of the net as the match ended in favor of Mines, 2-1.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
The Mountain Lions ended the match outshooting Mines 15-11 in shots and 7-2 in shots on goal as the Orediggers netted both of their shots on frame.
UCCS also took the advantage in corner kicks, 3-2, with two of the Mountain Lions' corner kicks coming in the second half.
• Kaitlin Hinkle was perfect in shots on goal percentage with both of her shots landing on frame as the redshirt junior tallied her seventh goal of the season for two points. Jadyn LeDoux came away with a game-high five shots with an added two shots on goal.
• Zoe Sims tallied an assist in the match and was one of five Mountain Lions to not leave the pitch on Sunday.
• Mines' Sadie Wolf bagged six saves in the match.
