COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing host to the 22
nd-ranked team in Division II, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team lost in straight sets to Colorado School of Mines Saturday afternoon inside Gallogly Events Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS forced an attacking error on the Orediggers for the first point of the match, but an error on the Mountain Lions followed by a Mines ace and four straight kills gave the visiting team a quick 6-1 lead. Julia Geiger put down a kill from Joei Barela's assist to bring UCCS within four points, 9-5, but it was the closest the Mountain Lions would get to the Orediggers as CSM took set one, 25-16.
- For the second straight set, UCCS notched the first point of the stanza before Shannon Perna gave Mines a 2-1 lead with two straight kills. Reilly Babcock connected with Hannah Ammerman to knot the set at 2-2. CSM won the next rally for a 3-2 advantage and held onto the lead the remainder of the set, taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-19 win.
- Mines snagged a 3-0 lead to start the final set but the Mountain Lions rallied back to go on a 6-5 run behind two kills from Ammerman and one from Tori Perduk before Barela served up three straight aces to put UCCS ahead. Mines reacted with a 9-3 run of their own to notch a 14-9 lead and finish the match with a 25-15 win.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Ammerman tied for match high honors with nine kills. She hit .263 on 19 attempts and added five digs.
- Perduk chipped in seven kills and hit a solid .545, committing only one error on 11 attempts.
- Babcock and Barela combined for 23 of the teams 26 set assists. Babcock added a match high seven digs, two kills and a block assist to go with her 13 assists. Barela tallied 10 assists, three aces, three digs and a kill.
- The second set featured a match high for UCCS with 12 kills and a .259 hitting percentage. The Mountain Lions finished the match with 28 kills and a .134 attack percentage.
- Megan Neil paced the Orediggers with nine kills and a .444 hitting mark. Emily Knight added three block solos and assisted on one as Mines finished the match with eight blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 82 attacks and 27 digs are a season low for the Mountain Lions.
- The Orediggers are the seventh nationally ranked team UCCS has faced this season.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will head to South Dakota to take on Black Hills State University and South Dakota Mines on Oct. 28-29 for their final road trip of the regular season.
