SPEARFISH, S.D. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team chalked up their seventh sweep of the season, defeating Black Hills State University in straight sets Friday night from the Young Center in Spearfish, S.D.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
  • Final: 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20)
  • Records: UCCS (11-12, 6-9 RMAC) | BHSU (4-19, 5-10 RMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions started the evening with a 2-0 deficit in the opening set, but a kill from Reilly Babcock and two Yellow Jacket errors gave UCCS a 3-2 lead.   Three rallies later Hannah Ammerman broke a 4-4 tie with a kill that sparked a 6-2 run and a lead the Mountain Lions wouldn't abandon.  Leading BHSU, 22-15 and forcing the home team to call their second timeout, the Mountain Lions sealed the win with a duo block from Tori Perduk and Julia Geiger, a kill from Perduk and an attack error from BHSU to take set one, 25-18.
  • Set two was tightly contested between the two teams as neither team led by more than two points until halfway through the set when a kill from the YellowJackets' Madison Hoopman gave BHSU their largest lead, 15-12.  UCCS responded with kills from Ammerman, Raegen Emery and Nicole Medlin, followed by three straight points from Babcock who delivered a kill and back-to-back aces as part of a 7-2 run.  BHSU came back to knot the match at 20-all, before a trio of kills from Ammerman (two) and Babcock combined with dual attacking errors from BHSU gave UCCS a 2-0 match lead.  Ammerman's eighth kill on the night sealed the win for the Mountain Lions, 25-23.
  • The final set found the Mountain Lions trailing for most of the first half of action, but the tides turned when UCCS went on a 12-3 run.  Trailing by six points, 14-8, UCCS' offense put down three kills and an ace while the defense blocked three attacks and forced BHSU to commit five errors.  The Mountain Lions won the final set, 25-20, behind 12 kills, a .281 hitting mark and three blocks as the YellowJackets registered 13 errors, nine of which came on the attack.
