ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After one round of the Fort Lewis College Nick Turner Invitational, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team is in 12
th place after carding a 317 on Monday. The 15-team tournament is being held in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Arroya del Oso Golf Course.

- Both Mountain Lion birdies today came from freshman Kaya Kshatriya who started the morning off on par-5 No. 11 and sank a birdie. She started her final four holes of the round with her second birdie of the day on No. 7 before finishing with three straight pars. Kshatriya's 76 has her in a tie for 19th place.
- One stroke behind Kshatriya and tied for 27th place is Rachel Penzenstadler with a 77. The sophomore posted a team high 13 pars today, including a string of six straight.
- After starting the round on No. 10 and shooting five-over par on the back nine, Emily Shimkus rebounded to post a two-over par on the front nine behind seven pars. Shimkus is currently tied for 41st place with a 79.
- Tied for 63rd place overall with an 85 are Olivia Florence and Samantha Saile. Five of Florence's nine pars today came on the front nine while Saile recorded seven pars.
- Competing as individuals for UCCS are Torri Leung and Eliana Vigil. Leung is in a tie for 69th place (86) while Vigil is tied for 74th place with 94 scorecard.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- The 15-team tournament has California State University San Marcos on top of the leaderboard after an opening round of 293 (five-over par). They hold a five-stroke lead over second place California State University East Bay and St. Mary's University.
- Leading all 78 golfers after one round of action is Caroline Wales of CSUSM with a two-under par 70.
BEYOND THE SCORECARD
- Penzenstadler is tied for fourth in the field in Par 3 scoring (3.00), and sixth for most pars (13).
- Shimkus is shooting an even 5.00 on Par 5 holes, tied for the 14th best, while Kshatriya's 4.10 Par 4 scoring is tied for the 12th best overall.
- As a team, the Mountain Lions 3.40 scoring average on Par 3 is tied for the fifth best, while their 51 pars and 5.45 Par 5 scoring are 10th best in the tournament.
UP NEXT
- The final round of the fall season will be a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
