THORNTON, Colo. –
Julia Baroth led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team to an individual and a team title in the Mountain Lions season opening tournament. Baroth shot an even par 216 to win the individual title while the Mountain Lions defended their title from last year's tournament, scoring a 924 (311, 302, 311) to best all 19 teams.

FROM THE TEE
- Julia Baroth entered the day in second play but finished strong with a two-under par 70 to win the individual title. She finished the tournament with an even par 216 (74, 72, 70) and led the field in Par 4 scoring (4.07) and birdies (11). She added five birdies to her total today, including three on the back nine after shooting a 35 on each half of the course.
- Dakotah Kreil moved up one spot to eighth place after registering a 78 today to bring her total to 234 (79, 77, 78). Kreil sank 14 pars and two birdies today while posting a 39 on the front nine and again on the back nine. She was second in the tournament in pars made (36).
- Jordyn Allen made two of her three birdies today on the back nine and finished the tournament with six as she placed in a tie for 14th overall. Allen posted an 80 today and a three-round score of 235 (77, 78, 80).
- Also finishing in the top 25 and rounding out the Mountain Lions scoring was Emily Shimkus. Shimkus finished 24th overall after hitting a 242 for the tournament (83, 75, 84).
- Rachel Penzenstadler chipped in a 246 (81, 82, 83) to finish 44th overall.
- Olivia Florence and Samantha Saile competed as individuals for UCCS. Florence scored a 245 (79, 83, 83) to finish 41st while Saile placed 79th with a 260 (83, 87, 90).
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
- Only 11 strokes separated the first place Mountain Lions with fourth place. Finishing runner-up was UT-Tyler (929), followed by Midwestern State University (933) and host team Colorado Christian University (935).
- Baroth led all 108 golfers in the tournament and won the title by eight strokes as three golfers tied for second place (224).
- UCCS led the field in Par 5 scoring (5.00) and birdies (27), and they finished second in Par 4 scoring (4.41) and Pars (144).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS is the defending champion of the CCU Swan Memorial. The Mountain Lions won the tournament in 2020, besting Westminster College by four strokes (613-617). Baroth (148), Shimkus (151) and Kreil (152) finished second, fourth and fifth overall, respectively.
- Nineteen teams competed in the two-day tournament, including 11 schools from the RMAC.
UP NEXT
- UCCS will return to the links for back-to-back tournaments in October. The Mountain Lions will travel to South Jordan, Utah for the Westminster College Wasatch Invitational Oct. 8-9, before heading back to Colorado for the Colorado State University Pueblo Farmers Insurance Proal Invite on Oct. 11-12, held at the Pueblo Country Club.
