fieldGOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team drops two games on Saturday to Colorado School of Mines, 8-5 and 11-4 in Golden, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
• Colorado School of Mines put the pressure on early five of their eight runs and five of the Orediggers' 10 hits coming in the second inning. Three singles and two extra base hits came against UCCS starter
Jon Sotto, including a three-run Trevor Howard home run to give CSM the 5-0 lead through two innings.
• In the top half of the third, the Mountain Lions cut the deficit by two runs as
Kiichi Sato doubled to the right center gap for an RBI with
Matt McDermott singling to right field for the second RBI to bring the Orediggers' lead down to 5-2.
• CSM matched UCCS' two-runs in the home half of the third with a solo home run and an RBI single as Luke Folsom drove in another run in the fourth by way of an RBI double to bring the score to 8-2 in favor of the Orediggers.

Jake Anderson registered the next three runs for the Mountain Lions as he sent a solo shot over the left center field fence in the top of the fifth. Down five runs heading into the seventh inning,
Evan Richards and Sato went back-to-back singles to start the inning as Anderson drove in Richards and Sato with a double down the right field line to cut the deficit down to three runs. The Mountain Lions momentum stopped there as CSM's Adam Houghtaling forced a line out and flyout to close the game 8-4.
STATS FROM GAME ONE
• Jon Sotto throws two complete innings where he allowed five runs off five hits with two strikeouts and one walk as he moves to 2-2 on the season.
• Freshman
Garrett Shriver goes 1.1 IP after giving up three runs on four hits while fanning four Orediggers.
• JJ Rytz had the longest outing as the second relief pitch on the day. Rytz struck out three and gave up just one hit after throwing 2.2 IP.
• Both the Mountain Lions and Orediggers recorded 10 hits in the ballgame with UCCS leving a game high seven runners left on base.
• UCCS' team batting average leader,
Jake Anderson, led the game in hits and RBI as he finished game one 3-for-4 with three RBI off a double and home run.
• Kiichi Sato turned in a 2-for-4 day from the leadoff spot after recording a double and driving in one RBI.

Walker Rumsey each tallied a pair of stolen bases as the Mountain Lions registered a season high seven stolen bases.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
• The Mountain Lions struck first after capitalizing off a wild pitch to score one run as
Jaeden Hegmann brought the second run in off a groundout to second base to score
Evan Richards.
• CSM answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first as the Orediggers took advantage of two wild pitches and recorded two doubles to take their first lead of the game, 3-2.
• Starting catcher
Ryan Schmidt was able to generate some offense in the top half of the second as he went deep to right field for an opposite field home run for an RBI and to tie the game 3-3. With bases loaded,
Jake Anderson worked the count and drew a walk to record an RBI and give the Mountain Lions the lead once again, 4-3.
• UCCS' lead was brief as the Orediggers came up to score four in the second and one run in the third to score eight runs in the first three innings. CSM starting pitcher Ben Schoneman went just 1.1 IP as he allowed all four of UCCS' runs, but Rodney Gregg came in for relief to shut down the Mountain Lions by allowing three hits and no runs for the remainder of the game.
• The Orediggers plated three more runs in the fifth inning to bring the score to 11-4 to complete the Saturday sweep.
STATS FROM GAME TWO
• Jeremy Onken receives the loss in game two after going two full innings. Onken gave up four earned runs and three unearned runs off of five hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
• Daniel Silva made a relief appearance in the third inning as he also went two complete innings and allowed one run off of one hit with two strikeouts.
• Matt Geoffrion and
Braden Barker each threw one inning in the loss. Geoffrion gave up three runs off four hits as Barker held the Orediggers hitless and scoreless with two walks and a strikeout.
• CSM outhit UCCS 10-5 in the ballgame as the Mountain Lions left a game high seven runners on base.
• Ryan Schmidt registered a game high two hits after turning in a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.
UP NEXT:
UCCS' road series against the Orediggers will end tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at Jim Darden Field in Golden, Colo.
