GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team grabs game four on Sunday as the Mountain Lions erupt for a 13-run eighth inning to defeat Colorado School of Mines 21-5 in Golden, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
• In what ended up being a dominant victory for the Mountain Lions on Sunday, the game started out with five UCCS runs through the first and second inning.
•
Matt McDermott's big day at the plate began with an RBI single in the first as
Jaeden Hegmann also recorded an RBI single to notch one of his four RBI in the game.
Jake Anderson later came around to score after taking advantage of a throwing error from the catcher to post the early 3-0 lead.
• In the second inning, McDermott came up to belt a two-run home run for his second and third RBI in two innings as the Mountain Lions grabbed a 5-0 lead.
• After
Brian Marquez held the Orediggers scoreless through the first and second inning, CSM put their first runs on the board as Toby Scoles hit a two-RBI single with runners on second third, making the score 5-2. CSM followed up the two-run third inning with a pair of one-run innings in the fourth and fifth to make it a one-run ballgame, 5-4.
• UCCS was able to get a run back in the sixth has the hot hitting McDermott singled up the middle to give the Mountain Lions the 6-4 advantage.
• In the bottom of the seventh, with
Nate Jenkins on the bump, the Orediggers plated one run with an RBI single and worked to base loaded with two outs as they threatened to take the lead. Holding the 6-5 lead, Jenkins forced a pop up in foul territory to get out of the inning with UCCS carrying all of the momentum.
• Up 6-5 in the top of the eighth, the Mountain Lions put the game away with a monster inning that included 13 runs scored off 11 hits. UCCS batted around twice in the inning as
Aaron Faragallah recorded all five of his RBI off a three-run homer and two-RBI single. McDermott tallied his fifth RBI of the game in the same inning as he also recorded two hits, while
Kiichi Sato and Hegmann each drove in two RBI off a single. The offensive eruption gave UCCS a commanding 19-5 lead.
• The 14-run lead wasn't enough for
Walker Rumsey and the Mountain Lions as Rumsey stepped up to work a 3-1 count and smash a two-run home run to deep left field for the 21-4 win.
STATS FROM GAME ONE
• Brian Marquez came away with the no decision after throwing four complete innings and allowing three runs off four hits with three strikeouts.
• Creede Jeffers was the first in relief and bags Sunday's win to improve to 2-1 on the season by going two full innings and giving up just one run off one hit with three strikeouts.
• Nate Jenkins also recorded two innings of relief as the redshirt senior allowed one run off two hits and three walks.
• Joseph Harris threw the last inning for the Mountain Lions by striking out one and giving up one hit.
• UCCS more than doubled the Orediggers' hits 22-8.
• All nine UCCS hitters recorded a hit in Sunday's game four win as six different Mountain Lions recorded an RBI.
• Matt McDermott was the offensive leader after finishing 5-for-7 with five RBI, four runs scored, a double, and home run.

Aaron Faragallah turned in a 4-for-5 day with five RBI and a three-run home run.
•
Jaeden Hegmann comes away with four RBI as the redshirt junior recorded a 3-for-6 day with two runs scored.
UP NEXT:
UCCS returns home Tuesday, May 11 as they play host to Regis University. The home series will feature a double header starting at 12 p.m. with the first game set for nine innings and the second game set for seven innings.
