Corrigan, Ross Named 2020-21 UCCS McLaughlin Award Winners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Mountain Lion student-athletes Mallory Corrigan and Will Ross have been named recipients of the 2020-21 University of Colorado Colorado Springs Thomas F. McLaughlin Award.
 
The Thomas F. McLaughlin Award is presented annually to the top student-athletes who have excelled in their sport, achieved in the classroom, have been a leader on their team and served their communities. These individuals represent the very best that Mountain Lion student-athlete have to offer. 
 
The President of the UCCS Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Mallory Corrigan is a four-year member of the women's lacrosse program.  A native of Blaine, Minn., Corrigan plays attack for the Mountain Lions where she has scored 37 goals and assisted on 29 in 44 career games.  Named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll in 2020 and 2019, Corrigan ranks seventh in the Mountain Lion record books in points (66) and goals (37), and fifth in assists (29).  This season, she has helped UCCS to the most wins in program history (eight) and to the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. Corrigan will graduate from UCCS with a degree in Sports Management and a 3.55 GPA.
 
"As a leader for the Mountain Lion women's lacrosse program, Mallory has also been an outstanding leader for the department, UCCS and in the Colorado Springs community," said UCCS Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson.  "Mallory led UCCS Athletics to national recognition for community service. Mallory has led numerous efforts for volunteering and has made a remarkable difference in the lives of those around her as well as inspiring leadership and service among others within the department and campus.  Mallory has also been an outstanding student athlete within the women's lacrosse program, including being named a multiple time all-conference academic student-athlete."
 
A two-time Academic All-American and Academic All-District performer for the Mountain Lions indoor and outdoor track and field programs, Will Ross is one of the most decorated student-athletes from UCCS.  He is a two-time USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field All-American, and has earned All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors 14 times, including earning First Team accolades 10 times.  The 2020 RMAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year, Ross has earned USTFCCCA all-region honors seven times while being named to the RMAC All-Academic Team six times.  He helped the Mountain Lions win the 2020 RMAC Indoor Track and Field championship.  This past week, he posted an automatic mark in the long jump while breaking the school record and adding a provisional mark in the triple jump to help UCCS win their first ever RMAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.  The owner of a 3.88 GPA, Ross will graduate from UCCS with an Electrical Engineering degree.
 
"Will has been recognized as an Academic All-American, which puts him in a select class of student-athletes who are All-Americans in their sport as well as in the classroom," said Gibson.  "Will has also led his team to the first conference championships in program history along with the highest national rankings in track and field in school history.  Will has made an incredible impact on the track and field program, not only for his amazing accomplishments, but also because of his outstanding leadership."

Corrigan and Ross were announced as the McLaughlin Award Winners Thursday morning as part of the annual UCCS Campus Awards Ceremony.
