COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field distance teams took to the track on Friday where the Mountain Lions registered three provisional qualifying times in Golden, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Outdoor freshman
Riley McGrath hit the ground running on Friday by clocking a raw time of 4:32.02 in the 1500m which converted to a blazing time of 4:24.73. McGrath not only won the event but ran a new PR and ran the fifth fastest 1500m time in program history for a new improved provisional qualifying time in the event. Freshman teammate
Kate Hedlund ran beside McGrath as she took third in the event by finishing the 1500m in 4:48.52
• Redshirt sophomore
Hannah Ellis was the only finisher in the women's 10,000m where she ran a season best time of 37:48.47 to register a converted provisional qualifying time of 36:20.70.
• In a field of four student-athletes for the 400m, the Mountain Lions'
Michela Hewitt recorded the quickest UCCS time by running to a PR time of 58.60s. Freshman
Liz Bindert followed right behind to finish in fourth with a time of 1:00.26.
• On the men's side, it was
Afewerki Zeru who dominated the 10,000m. The redshirt sophomore cruised to a new PR and third best time in program history of 30:27.55. Zeru's new PR converted to 29:16.84 which was just shy of an automatic qualifying time but provisionally qualifies him for nationals.
• Gavin Harden and
Matthew Schramm both competed in the 1500m where they notched times of 4:01.78 and 4:05.99 for sixth and seventh place respectively as Harden ran his way to a new PR in the event.

UCCS Track & Field will continue competition this weekend as they travel to Kearney, Neb. for the Loper Twilight #1 on Saturday, May 15 and Loper Twilight #2 on Sunday, May 16.
