HOW IT HAPPENED
• Outdoor junior Hannah Meek found her way back to the podium on Saturday by adding a silver medal to her resume in the triple jump. Meek's silver medal mark of 12.41m was her season best and provisionally qualifies her for nationals. Junior Lydia Pavlenko and freshman Audrey Bloomquist gave the Mountain Lions additional points in the triple jump as Pavlenko leaped out to a fifth place provisional mark of 11.95m while Bloomquist took seventh with a jump of 11.62m for a total of 14 points.
• At the discus, freshmen Caden Showalter and Anna Holland kept the points coming as Showalter notched the fifth best outdoor mark in school history of 45.45m for a seventh place finish with Holland throwing out to a mark of 41.87m to place her name in UCCS' all-time performance list at No. 3.
• Freshman Rachel Richtman outran her season best time in the 3000m steeplechase by clocking a time 11:37.07 to earn herself a fourth place finish and tally five team points for the Mountain Lions.
• It was another great showing for the Mountain Lions in the prelims as they set themselves up nicely for championship Sunday. UCCS went 2-for-2 in the men's 110m hurdles as senior Charlie Forbes turned in the fastest prelim time at a provisional mark of 14.44s with outdoor freshman Zaire Jackson running to 15.14s for a finals appearance in the event. Over in the women's 100m hurdles, Cameron Tracy (14.41s), Melissa Moreni (14.63s), and Maggie Remsberg (14.89s) each topped the competition in their respective heats to automatically qualify for Sunday's final race as Alexis Carroll adds a fourth Mountain Lion in the final after clocking a time of 15.38s.
• The Mountain Lions were nowhere close to being done with top prelim times as they moved over to the 200m. The UCCS women will have three in the final race after Brittany Fuchs and Kayla Zink each ran the fastest prelim time in their respective heats with times of 24.80s and 24.84s, respectively. Freshman Keyanda Bolton represents the third Mountain Lion who moves on to the final as she finished in 24.91s. For the men, sophomore Justice Mendoza and freshman Brian Mosley Jr. qualified for their second final race as Mendoza posted the second fastest prelim time of 21.56s with Mosley Jr. registering a qualifying time of 22.02s.
• Two more Mountain Lions rounded out Saturday's qualifying times with Michela Hewitt and Ellie Enderle working their way into the top-9 in the women's 800m. Hewitt registered the seventh fastest time at 2:14.01 as Enderle finished right behind Hewitt for the eight fastest time at 2:14.78.
The multi events came to a close on Saturday night where 11 points were registered in the men's decathlon and seven points in the women's heptathlon. Junior Sam Repsher led the way with a podium finish and bronze medal in the decathlon by scoring 6,538 points to record a provisional mark. Freshman Thorben Hast finished fourth for five team points after scoring 6,533 points. In the heptathlon, Ella McKinna-Worrell was the top UCCS finish with a fifth place score of 4,302 points as Faith Novess posted 4,284 points to take sixth.
