Mountain Lions Record Ninth Place Finish at WT Desert Invite

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team posted a second round score of 644 to finish in ninth place overall at the West Texas A&M Desert Invite, held at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Ariz.  UCCS opened the tournament shooting a 315 yesterday and finished today's round with a 329.

FROM THE TEE
Dakotah Kreil finished the tournament strong, moving up from yesterday's spot of 28th place to finish 13th overall.  Kreil carded a 76 today, three strokes better from yesterday's round.  On the back nine, she recorded a one-under par 35 behind two birdies and six pars.
 
Emily Shimkus' round of 82 today moved her in a tie for 26th place overall.  Shimkus finished the tournament with a 160 (78, 82).  She sunk two birdies on the front nine on holes No. 5 (par 4) and No. 8 (par 5).
 
Regina Dillon also sunk two birdies today on holes No. 9 (par 4) and No. 13 (par 4) as she finished today with an 84, placing her in a tie for 30th place with a 161.  Dillon tallied 14 pars and five birdies in the two rounds combined.
 
Closing out the Mountain Lions scoring is Julia Eaton's 170.  Eaton recorded rounds of 81 and 89 and finished in 62nd place (tie).  She chipped in 16 pars overall and added a birdie today on par 3 hole No. 17.
 
Samantha Saile closed the tournament in 85th place behind a 93 and 87 (180).  She drained a birdie today on hole No. 3 and took off six strokes from yesterday's round.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Texas A&M-Commerce kept their lead from Monday to win the 17-team tournament with a 603 (295, 308).  Sarah Wongsinth of TAMU also kept her individual lead, besting all 90 golfers with a 147 (71, 76).

The Mountain Lions will now prepare for the 2021 conference championship tournament April 18-20 at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
