Women’s Golf Four Strokes Behind Team Leader after Round Two

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Only four strokes separate the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team from the team leader after two rounds of play at the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship Tournament, held at Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.  The Mountain Lions shaved off 11 strokes from Sunday's opening round and are in fourth place with a 629, just four strokes behind Colorado Mesa University's 625.  UCCS shot a 309 on Monday after posting a 320 in round one.

FROM THE TEE
Emily Shimkus is pacing the Mountain Lions and is in sixth place after carding a 75 today.  Shimkus shaved off four strokes from yesterday's opening round after posting two birdies and 10 pars today.  She owns a two-round total of 154 (79, 75).
 
Dakotah Kreil moved up three spots and has sole possession of 10th place with a 155 (79, 76).  Kreil, who has three birdies in two rounds, posted a 36 on the back nine with a birdie on hole No. 18 and seven pars.
 
Holding at 13th place is Julia Eaton who recorded an 80 on Monday.  Eaton enters the final round of the tournament with a 158 (78, 80).
 
Regina Dillon improved from her 33rd finish on Sunday and is now in a tie for 22nd overall with a 162.  Dillon improved by six shots after hitting a 78 today.
 
Just outside of scoring for UCCS is Samantha Saile who is in 44th place.  Saile bested yesterday's round by eight strokes and has a two-day score of 172 (90, 82).
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
The Mavericks moved up from yesterday's fourth round finish to take the lead over from MSU Denver and Colorado Christian University.  CMU also improved by 11 strokes today after carding a 307 for a two-day total of 625 (318, 307).  The Cougars' Emily Donaldson shot one better than teammate Faith Kilgore to break the individual tie. Donaldson owns a two-day total of 147 (74, 73).
 
UP NEXT
The third and final round will begin Tuesday morning with the Mountain Lions teeing off at 8:05 a.m.
