• The runs slowly continued to come in for UCCS as a three-run third inning was led by four hits, including three extra base hits.
Matt McDermott drove in one of his six RBI on the game as a triple down the right field line scored
Evan Richards. Four-hole hitter
Jake Anderson came up to do his job as a sacrifice fly to right field scored McDermott for two quick runs. Two more extra base hits found the gaps with back-to-back doubles from
Aaron Faragallah and
Michael Bennin to make the game 4-0 in favor of the Mountain Lions.
• While the offense did their job at the plate, starting pitcher
Jon Sotto kept the Cougars off-balance for five complete innings to maintain the 4-0 lead as he allowed just three hits.
• As Sotto finished up his strong outing on the mound, relief pitcher
Hayden Salverda entered the game to pick up right where Sotto left off as he retired the side in the top of the sixth.
• After the Mountain Lions held the Cougars scoreless through six innings of play, UCCS turned it up a notch offensively to erupt for and eight-run seventh inning. The inning was fueled off five hits as McDermott recorded two hits and three RBI. His first at-bat was a single which began the offensive outburst as he later came up to rip a three-RBI double to bring his RBI count up to four through seven innings of play. Redshirt junior
Walker Rumsey joined in on the action to drive in two runs off a single as the Mountain Lions came away with the 12-0 lead to head into the bottom half of the seventh.
• Salverda finished up his outing after a 1-2-3 inning brought the seventh to a close as Salverda did not allow a hit in his two innings of action.
• With the 12-0 lead in hand, the Mountain Lions turned to redshirt junior
Matt Geoffrion to close out the game and did just that by pitching through two innings of work and allowing one hit.
• Before Geoffrion closed it out in the ninth, UCCS brought in four more runs as McDermott wrapped up his career day at the plate with a two-RBI double for a new career high six RBI on the day.

• In the top of the second, UCCS took advantage of two CCU errors while tallying two hits to bring four runs across and increase their lead. Three consecutive hits got the inning going for the Mountain Lions as

Ryan Schmidt off a two-RBI single. Berg later came in to score off a Cougar error as McDermott recorded an RBI later in the inning off a fielder's choice to give UCCS the 5-0 lead.
