PUEBLO, Colo. – Competing in their second tournament of the spring season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team put on a strong showing at the El Cheapo Classic, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo at Walking Stick Golf Course. The Mountain Lions finished third out of 14 teams with a team score of 638. The tournament was originally scheduled to be played Sunday and Monday, but a late winter storm coming into the area moved the tournament to 36 holes on Sunday.

Julia Baroth finished in a tie for second place after recording a 77 in the opening round followed by a 75 in round two for tournament total of 152, just two strokes behind the individual leader. Baroth hit 19 pars in both rounds and added four birdies on holes No. 4 (par 5), No. 12 (par 3), two birdies on No. 13 (par 5) and No. 17 (par 3).
Also finishing in the top 10 was
Emily Shimkus with a 156 (79, 77). Shimkus notched 23 pars and two birdies to tie for 10
th overall.
Dakotah Kreil carded a 171 after opening the tournament with an 80 followed by an 81. Both of Kreil's birdies came in the second round as she combined for 19 pars.
Rounding out the scoring for the Mountain Lions was
Regina Dillon. Dillon finished the tournament in a tie for 37
th place after tallying a 170 (84, 86).
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Colorado Mesa University bested all 14 teams after shooting a 620. The individual title went to Alpine Hickstein of Chadron State College who posted a six-over par 150 (70, 80).
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions will compete in two more tournaments before the RMAC Championship Tournament. UCCS will travel to Goodyear, Ariz. for the Western New Mexico University Palm Valley Classic on April 2-3, followed by the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational April 5-6 in Tucson, Ariz.
