PUEBLO, Colo. – On Saturday, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track and field teams combined for six national qualifying marks and six event wins at the CSU Pueblo Early Bird meet, hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Sophomore
Justice Mendoza started the outdoor season off in event winning fashion by finishing the 200m in a blazing provisional qualifying time of 21.25s. He also added a fourth place finish in 100m after racing to a time of 10.70s.
• Mendoza was not the only top Mountain Lion finisher in the 100m as
Brian Mosley Jr. finished ahead of Mendoza in second place with a time of 10.61s. Junior
Peter Ackah and senior
Charlie Forbes found themselves in the top-10 of the 100m as well with Ackah taking fifth (10.76s) and Forbes taking sixth (10.79s). Forbes also competed in the 200m where a time of 21.95s landed him inside the top-10 at seventh place.
• Freshman
Isaiah Escalante joined in on the top-10 finishes by recording two of them on Saturday. His top finish came in the 400m where he clocked a third place time of 48.90s as he added a 10
th place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.32s.
• The men's 1500m saw two Mountain Lions work into the top-10 as junior Matt Schramm and senior
Sam Nofziger raced to times of 4:00.05 and 4:01.97 for sixth and 10
th place respectively.
• In the high jump, the Mountain Lions fared well in the event with sophomore
Skye Ciccarelli topping the competition with a provisional mark of 2.12m to win the event. Junior
Tanner Walsh added his first national qualifying mark of the outdoor season by clearing 2.06m in the high jump to finish tied for second.
• At the long jump and triple jump, it was graduate student and outdoor senior William Ross who blew away the competition. Ross swept both events and added provisional marks for good measure by launching to a monster PR mark of 7.55m in the long jump and registering a mark of 14.90m in the triple jump. Freshman
Audrey Bloomquist registered a pair of second place finishes on the women's side with an 11.89m provisional mark in the triple jump and a mark of 5.79m in the long jump.
• Bloomquist not only performed well in the pits but also shined on the track by racing to a top-10 time in the 100m. Her time of 12.50s in the women's 100m gave her seventh place as three other Mountain Lions earned top-10 spots in the event.
• Sophomore
Brittany Fuchs claimed a pair of third place finishes as she was the top UCCS finisher in both the 100m and 200m with times of 12.15s and 25.10s. Freshmen
Keyanda Bolton and
Ashley Benton competed in their first outdoor collegiate meet as they each notched top-10 finishes. Bolton placed sixth (12.42s) in the 100m and ninth (25.63s) in the 200m as Benton earned ninth (12.56s) in the 100m and fifth place (25.33s) in the 200m.
• In the hurdle events, the Mountain Lion women walked away with two event wins. Freshman Missy Moreni bested the competition in the 110 H by sprinting to a time of 14.58s while junior
Diana Reynolds claimed the 400 H with an event winning time of 1:05.87. Freshman
Maggie Remsberg raced to a second place finish in the 110 H with a time of 15.15s. Fellow freshman
Nadine Almasri and senior
Jalen Jordan also clocked top-5 finishes in the 400m H with Almasri taking third at a time of 1:06.58 and Jordan finishing in 1:07.13 for fourth place.
• At the 400m and 800m, UCCS bagged a total of three top-8 spots on the women's side. Freshmen
Kate Hedlund and
Kelsey Rycenga finished in fourth and fifth place with times of 2:18.17 and 2:22.10 in the 800m respectively as
Michela Hewitt took eighth by racing to a time of 59.63s.
• The men's pole vault witnessed two Mountain Lions in the top-5 as freshman
Holden Daniels and senior
Dawson Hopkinson each tied for third with marks of 4.65m.
• In the throws events, freshmen Caroline Walters and
Anna Holland continued to perform well as Walters took third place in the women's discus with a mark of 39.56m while Holland recorded a mark of 38.47m for fifth place. Freshman
Caden Showalter and senior
Colton Homuth combined for fifth and fourth place in the men's discus with marks of 44.32m and 44.11m, respectively. For the shot put,
Emily Arseneau and Showalter were the top UCCS finishers with Arseneau taking fourth (12.61m) on the women's side and Showalter placing seventh (14.45m) for the men.

The Mountain Lions will head back to Pueblo, Colo. next weekend for their second outdoor meet of the season as they prepare to compete in the CSU Pueblo Spank Blasing Invite on Friday, Mar. 26 and Saturday, Mar. 27.
