Mountain Lions Finish in Seventh Place at SMU Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team improved in the standings to finish seventh overall in their first tournament of the spring season.  UCCS posted a 321 today, 11 strokes better than yesterday's round of 332, finishing the SMU Rattler Invitational with a 653.

FROM THE TEE
Emily Shimkus made a significant leap on the leader board, improving 16 spots.  She shaved off eight strokes from yesterday's round of 84 to finish today in a tie for 16th place after shooing a 76 (16).  Shimkus made par on eight straight holes on the front nine and finished today with 13 pars and a birdie on hole No. 13 (par 4).
 
Julia Baroth tallied an 80 and finished the tournament with a 161 to place her in a tie for 23rd overall.
 
Dakotah Kreil and Regina Dillon finished within one stroke of each other.  Kreil posted an 84 in the second round, two strokes better than Monday's opening round of 86.  Her score of 170 was tied for 45th overall, while Dillon finished 47th (tie).
 
Just outside the scoring column for UCCS was Julia Eaton.  Eaton took off 15 strokes from yesterday, posting a two-day total of 177 (96, 81) and a 56th place finish.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Host team St. Mary's won the 13-team tournament after recording a team score of 611 (305, 306).  The Rattlers' Monica Dibildox held her individual lead from Monday and won the title with an even par 144 (71, 73).

UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions will head to the CSU Pueblo El Cheapo Classic March 21-22, held at Walking Stick Golf Course.
