COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the 2021-2022 Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll on Friday afternoon with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams each being voted to finish atop the conference for the second consecutive season. Each program received nine first-place votes as the men's team collected a total of 119 points and the women's program tallied 141 points.
The preseason poll was voted on by the conference's 12 head coaches on the men's side and 13 head coaches on the women's side. Coaches could not vote for their own team.
The Mountain Lions sit on the top of the preseason poll yet again after putting forth a dominant performance at the 2020-2021 RMAC Indoor Championships where they swept the indoor conference titles for a second consecutive year. The UCCS men's program finished the championship meet with 195 points and a 98-point lead over second place Adams State University (97 points) while the Mountain Lion women recorded 216 points as they closed the meet with a 116-point margin over runner-up Colorado Mesa University (110 points). The Mountain Lions also notched 11 RMAC individual champions while
Lydia Pavlenko and
Afewerki Zeru were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Meet, respectively. UCCS will return a large portion of their 2020-2021 championship squad while also adding 39 newcomers for the upcoming season.
The UCCS track & field team will begin their title defense this afternoon as they kick off the 2021-2022 season at the Air Force Holiday Open.
