Nine Mountain Lions Named to RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nine University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Honor Roll, announced today by the conference office.  Earning academic accolades are Hannah Ammerman (Parker, Colo.), Maren Burkhart (Lenexa, Kan.), Emily Ettel (Englewood, Colo.), Julia Geiger (Littleton, Colo.), Jordyn Kinsey (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Madison McIntosh (St. Louis Park, Minn.), Katelyn McMoore (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Lauryn Shockley (Valencia, Calif.), and Jenna Szilagyi (Monument, Colo.).

Metropolitan State University of Denver's Rylee Hladky is the 2021 RMAC Volleyball Academic Player of the Year. Student-athletes were voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.
 
For the third straight season, redshirt-junior outside hitter Hannah Ammerman has earned RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolades.  Ammerman has tallied the second most kills on the team with 204 and has the second highest hitting percentage (.225).  She leads the Mountain Lions in blocks after stopping 36 attacks (five solo blocks).  Ammerman, who has accounted for 241.5 points this season, owns a 3.852 GPA in History.
 
Senior outside hitter Maren Burkhart has a 3.303 GPA in Communications.  She has competed in 20 matches and 79 sets this season, accumulating 119 kills and a .211 hitting mark.  Burkhart has notched at least 10 kills in five matches, including a season high 16 kills on Oct. 5 against CSU Pueblo.  She has added a team high 34 blocks including two matches with a career high five blocks (vs. Western Colorado, Oct. 15, and vs. Westminster, Oct. 23).
 
Setter Emily Ettel ranks fifth in the league in assists per set, posting up 9.29 assists each set.  Earning her second straight RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolade, Ettel has played in 16 matches and 63 sets for the Mountain Lions this season and has tallied at least 30 assists in 10 matches.  A Biology major with a 3.958 GPA, Ettel recorded career highs this season in assists (55 vs. Western Colorado), kills (seven at Adams State) and blocks (four vs. Colorado Christian).
 
Junior middle blocker Julia Geiger owns a 3.838 GPA in Business and is making her second appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.  She has tallied 77.5 points, 11 blocks and 70 kills in 11 matches this season.  In the opening weekend of the season, Geiger posted career highs in kills (14) and attacks (31) against William Jewell before blocking a career high four attempts against Rockhurst, all on Saturday, Sept. 4.
 
Redshirt-junior Jordyn Kinsey is making her fourth appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.  A Math major with a 3.848 GPA, Kinsey has tallied 265 digs this season and 3.19 digs per set.  Kinsey, who has seen action in all 83 sets this season, has added a team high 22 aces and 46 set assists.  She has tallied double-digit digs in 13 matches this season, including a season high 20 digs twice against CSU Pueblo on Oct. 5 and Western Colorado on Oct. 15.
 
A Business major with a 3.674 GPA, Madison McIntosh is making her second appearance on the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll after earning the honor in the spring of 2021.  The junior defensive specialist has competed in 18 matches and 55 sets this season.  She registered a season high 10 digs on Oct. 15 against Western Colorado in a 3-2 home win.  McIntosh has added three kills and nine aces this season.
 
A Business major with a 3.810 GPA, Katelyn McMoore has appeared in 23 sets this season.  The redshirt-freshman outside hitter has tallied 11 kills and six blocks.  In a five-set win at Adams State, McMoore recorded four kills on six attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.  She added a career high two blocks this past Saturday in a road sweep against Chadron State College.
 
A 2020-21 All-RMAC Second Team and RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection, Lauryn Shockley is one of the top hitters in the RMAC.  In 83 sets this season, she is averaging the sixth most kills in the league (3.36, kills per set) and sixth most points (3.74).  She is hitting the ball at a .268 clip and has added 18 aces, 182 digs and 21 blocks.   She put down a career high 26 kills on Sept. 11 in a five-set home match against Lubbock Christian University.  Shockley is majoring in Communications at UCCS and has a 3.700 GPA.
 
Jenna Szilagyi has competed in six matches this season. A RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection last spring, Szilagyi has posted four digs and served the ball eight times.  She is a Biology major at UCCS with a 3.631 GPA.
 
The Mountain Lions (7-14, 4-10 RMAC) will close out the home portion of their regular season this weekend, Nov. 5-6 against Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines.
