SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Competing in wet and stormy conditions, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team posted a 324 to open the Westminster College Wasatch Invitational on Friday at the Glenmoor Golf Course in South Jordan, Utah.  The Mountain Lions are sitting in eighth place after one round of action.

FROM THE TEE

• Only four strokes separate all five UCCS golfers at the WC Wasatch Invite.  Julia Baroth and Emily Shimkus are pacing the Mountain Lions after carding an 80 and are tied for 25^th place.  Baroth chipped in a birdie on par 4 hole No. 11 and added 10 pars.  Shimkus tallied 11 pars, the second most on the team behind Dakotah Kreil.
• One stroke behind Baroth and Shimkus is Jordyn Allen who is in a tie for 34^th place after nailing 10 pars.
• Dakota Kreil is tied for 45^th place with an 83 after hitting the fourth most pars in the field.  Kreil drained six pars on each half of the course including a string of five straight.
• Just outside of scoring for the Mountain Lions is Rachel Penzenstadler who is tied for 45^th place with an 84.   Penzenstadler posted the second birdie for UCCS on hole No. 3 (par 3).

 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS

• Biola University leads the 14-team field with a 304.  Brady Turnquist (Biola) leads the field of 76 golfers with a three-under par 69.

 
BEYOND THE SCORECARD

• UCCS notched two birdies in the first round from Baroth and Penzenstadler.
• Penzenstadler is sixth overall in Par 3 scoring (3.00).  Allen is currently tied for seventh in Par 5 scoring (5.00) while Baroth is tied for eighth in Par 4 scoring (4.30).

 
UP NEXT

• The final round will begin Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
