THORNTON, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team won the 2020 Colorado Christian University Swan Memorial Tuesday afternoon in their season-opening tournament. The Mountain Lions shot a 307 on Tuesday to bring their two-day total to 613 (306, 307), topping all nine teams. UCCS won by four strokes over second place Westminster College and were 10 strokes better than Colorado Mesa University in third place.

All four scorers for the Mountain Lions finished in the top 20 of the tournament, including three in the top five. Julia Baroth (Denver, Colo.) led UCCS with a second place finish after shooting a 148 (75, 73). Baroth, who parred on 13 holes, recorded birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 4, finishing the tournament with four birdies. In two rounds, Baroth notched 24 pars, just one off the tournament lead (Alpine Hickstein, Chadron State College).
Freshman
Emily Shimkus (Cave Creek, Ariz.) placed fourth in her first collegiate tournament. Shimkus drained two birdies on Tuesday to finish with a 151 (75, 76).
Just one stroke off Shimkus was
Dakotah Kreil (Gilbert, Ariz.) who placed fifth with a 152 (76, 76). Kreil shot two-under par on the back nine where she made three of her four birdies. She led the team with seven birdies in the tournament and had the second most in the tournament field.
Julia Eaton (Fishers, Ind.) closed the scoring round for the Mountain Lions with an 82 to finish in a tie for 17
th place overall and a score of 162.
Samantha Saile (Barrington, Ill.), competing as an individual, shaved off six strokes from Monday's round. Saile opened the tournament with an 87 but shot an 81 today to finish in a tie for 27
th place with a 168. Also competing as an individual was
Mackenzie Fontana (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who posted a two-round score of 192 (92, 100) to finish 54
th overall.
TOURNAMENT LEADERS
Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian University won the individual title with a three-under par 141. Kilgore scored a 76 on Monday but improved by 11 strokes on Tuesday to best all 63 golfers.

UCCS will be back in action on Oct. 5 at the West Texas A&M Fall Invite, held at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.
