The Week's Matchup
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team will be on the road in Pueblo, Colo. this weekend to face off against Colorado State University – Pueblo in a four-game series.
  • On Saturday, March 14, the first double header of the series will take place, with games scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
  • Sunday, March 15 will showcase the second double header of the series, with the games slated for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • UCCS split their most recent series against Dixie State University last weekend, 2-2. The Mountain Lions are now 10-13 overall this season and 6-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
  • As a team, UCCS scored 20 runs off 29 hits in the series including two doubles and eight home runs. Brianna Santos led the team in hits, going 6-for-15 with one double, two home runs and four RBI, awarding her a .400 batting average on the weekend. Peyton Reisman finished the series batting .364 after going 4-for-11 with two home runs and four RBI.
  • The Mountain Lions pitching staff had a good showing as well, as they finished the weekend with a 3.50 ERA, 18 runs allowed (14 earned) and 17 strikeouts.
  • In game one, UCCS was able to do all of their damage in the second inning, scoring eight runs off seven hits and three DSU errors. Alex Cook went 2-for-2 in that inning alone, which included a three-run home run towards the end of the inning. The remainder of the eight runs were scored off RBI singles from Solana Martinez, Taylor Harrison and Santos, while the final two were scored off a DSU fielding error.
  • The Trailblazers tried to dig themselves out of that hole but were unable to do so as UCCS took game one by a final score of 8-5.
  • Saturday's second game was back and forth as DSU scored first with a run in the second, to which UCCS immediately responded in the bottom of the second with a two-run blast hit by Payton Romines to give UCCS a 2-1 lead. DSU then hit a solo home run in the third to tie things up after three innings. The fourth and fifth were scoreless from both teams, then DSU put up three runs in the sixth off two hits and one UCCS error.
  • DSU added another solo home run in the seventh to make it 6-3 with a ½ inning to go. Romines added her second home run of the game to lead things off in the inning, but unfortunately UCCS could not rally and fell 6-3.
  • On Sunday, UCCS came out with a vengeance in game one as they got hot right away from the plate. DSU scored one in the first off a solo home run, which would be their only run of the game. UCCS answered with a pair of home runs in the bottom of the first, a solo shot from Santos and a two-run bomb from Cook. Santos then added her second solo home run of the game in the second inning to make it 4-1 UCCS. The hit parade continued in the fourth inning with another two-run home run, this time from Reisman, to make it 6-1 in favor of the Mountain Lions. Then, just for good measure, Santos tallied her third hit of the day with an RBI double to make it 7-1 UCCS.
  • The second game on Sunday did not go as well as the first as DSU took down UCCS 6-2. The only two runs for the Mountain Lions came off a two-run home run from Reisman, her second of the day. But the Mountain Lions could not add to that as they dropped the final game to split the series.
