UCCS in Fifth Place at CSUP Farmers Insurance Invite

PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team started the Colorado State University Pueblo Farmers Insurance Sam Proal Invitational on Monday with a 321, placing them fifth overall and just 11 strokes behind the tournament lead.  The Mountain Lions own a two-stroke lead over host team Colorado State Pueblo (323).

FROM THE TEE
Julia Baroth (Denver, Colo.) is pacing the Mountain Lions and is tied for second place after one round of action after starting the tournament with a two-over par 74.  Baroth hit par on 11 of her first 12 holes, including a birdie on hole No. 12 (par 5). 
 
Just two shots behind Baroth and sitting in fifth place is Dakotah Kreil (Gilbert, Ariz.) with a 76.  Kreil shot two-under par in her final six holes today.
 
Rounding out the Mountain Lions top four scorers are Emily Shimkus (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Julia Eaton (Fishers, Ind.).  Shimkus tallied eight pars and two birdies and finished the day with an 83 to place her in a tie for 24th overall.  Eaton carded an 88 behind four pars and a birdie on hole No. 2.
 
Just outside of scoring position is Cheryl Gauthier (Liberty Hill, Texas) who posted an 89 and is in 39th place. 

Competing as an individual, Samantha Saile is currently in a tie for 27th place with an 84 behind seven pars and two birdies on holes No. 2 and 10.
 
TOURNAMENT LEADERS 
Colorado Mesa University is leading the 10-team tournament after shooting a 310 in the opening round.  They are followed by Colorado Christian University (313), Westminster College (315), and Chadron State College (320).
