Second Half Comeback Falls Short for Mountain Lions, 66-64

Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – Trailing by 12 points at halftime, 34-22, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team stormed back in the second half Friday night at Black Hills State University, but the Mountain Lions comeback fell short in Spearfish, S.D., 66-64.
 
UCCS opened the second half on a 13-4 run in the first three minutes to cut into the Yellow Jackets lead, 38-33.  Padiet Wang tied the game at 42-42 with 13:03 remaining.  Wang's free throw to knot the game marked his 1,000th career point for UCCS.
 
Parker Gaddis' free throw with 7:17 left in regulation gave UCCS their first lead since the 10-minute mark in the first half, but BHSU quickly regained the lead.  With 92 seconds to go in regulation, Wang made one of his four treys on the night to knot the game again, 64-64.
 
On the ensuing possession for BHSU, Tyler Oliver hit a layup with 1:08 left in regulation for the game-winning bucket.
 
Wang finished the game with a game high 20 points.  He made 7-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point range and both free throw attempts.  Wang added seven rebounds, a steal and an assist.
 
Blend Avdili, Alijah Comithier and Gaddis netted 12, 11 and 10 points each, respectively.  Avdili, who made all three free throw attempts, notched three assists and a steal. 
 
The Mountain Lions made 45.1 percent from the floor, 41.2 percent from three-point range and 78.6 percent from the free throw line. 
 
BSHU drilled 8-of-13 three-pointers for 61.5 percent and made all six free throw attempts.
 
UCCS will travel to South Dakota State University for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday, Jan. 18.
