Kreil Shoots 72 in Opening Round of WNMU RJGA Shootout

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Sophomore Dakotah Kreil recorded a career low round of 72 on Monday in the first round of the Western New Mexico University RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., placing her in a tie for fifth place overall.  As a team, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf program is in 14th place with an opening score of 314 at the Golf Club of Estrella (par 72, 5,909 yards).
 
California State San Marcos leads the 18-team field with an even-par 288.  Jaime Jacob of CSUSM is the individual leader, besting all 94 golfers with a four-under par 68.
 
Kreil hit par on 12 holes, including five straight on the front nine.  She added three birdies on holes No. 1 (par 4), No. 7 (par 3) and No. 16 (Par 5).
 
Teammate Julia Baroth is four strokes behind Kreil and is in a tie for 30th place.  Baroth also chipped in three birdies on holes No. 9 (par 4), No. 16 and No. 18 (par 4).
 
Julia Eaton and Regina Dillon round out the Mountain Lions scorers.  Eaton is in a tie for 56th place after shooting an 80, while Dillon's 86 has her in a tie for 82nd place.
 
The Mountain Lions will begin round two Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. (MT).
