PUEBLO, Colo. – After opening the 2019-20 season on Monday with a seventh-place score of 316 at the 2019-20 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Fall Preview/Colorado State-Pueblo Farmers Insurance Invitational, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team finished fifth overall after Tuesday's round. The Mountain Lions added 10 strokes onto Monday's round to card a 642 total for the 36-hole tournament, held at the Pueblo Country Club.
Dixie State University won the 14-team tournament. The Trailblazers recorded a 613 (300, 313), just one stroke ahead of second place Colorado Mesa University and two strokes ahead of Regis University. Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian University held on to Monday's lead to win the individual title. Kilgore finished one-under par (70, 73).
Julia Baroth mirrored Monday's performance with another 76 on Tuesday. Her two-day score of 152 was the seventh best in a field of 75 golfers. She added birdies on holes No. 9, 11 and 17 to go with 10 pars. For the tournament, Baroth carded a tournament best 24 pars and the third best score on Par 3's (3.10 average).
Dakotah Kreil posted a top-20 finish after notching a 158 to place in a tie for 18
th. Kreil, who shot an 82 today, posted four birdies to lead the Mountain Lion squad.
Regina Dillon and
Julia Eaton each scored a birdie on hole No. 10. Dillon tied for 23
rd place with a two-day score of 161 (80, 81), followed by Eaton's 171 (50
th place).
Brianna Vetter finished just outside the Mountain Lions scorers after posting a 177 for 61
st place.
Competing as an individual,
Mackenzie Fontana finished her first collegiate tournament with a 189.
UCCS will return to action Sept. 23-24 in Goodyear, Ariz. The Mountain Lions will compete in the Western New Mexico University RJGA Invite at the Golf Club of Estrella.
