DENVER – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team finished just one spot out of atomically qualifying for the NCAA National Championship race Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Lions scored 154 points for a fourth place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional 6K race, hosted by MSU Denver in Washington Park.
The top three teams automatically qualify for the NCAA National Championship race on Dec. 1 in Pittsburg, Pa.
Adams State University bested all 30 teams with 30 points. Western State Colorado University finished a close second with 31 points, followed by Colorado School of Mines (105 points). Alicja Konieczek of WSCU earned the individual title with a time of 21:54.4.
Kayla Wooten earned all-region accolades with a 12
th place finish in 22:13.5 to lead UCCS, followed by
Hannah Ellis' 27
th place finish in 22:38.2.
Katie Novak (31
st place),
Marah Guzman (38
th place) and
Natalie Church (46
th place) each posted career best 6K times today to round out the UCCS scoring. Novak crossed the finish line in 22:45.9, followed by Guzman's mark of 23:12.8 and Church's time of 23:23.7.
Molly Weir (23:25.6) and
Ellie Enderle (23:57.5) placed 47
th and 66
th place overall, respectively.
The Mountain Lions will wait until Monday, Nov. 19 when the NCAA announces the at-large bids for the championship meet.
