COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After the best shooting performance of the season last Friday, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team will return to the Gallogly Events Center for another Friday contest with Adams State. The Mountain Lions (4-8, 3-4 RMAC) and the Grizzlies (5-9, 2-6 RMAC) will face off at 7:30 p.m.
UCCS shot 56 percent against Western State last Friday, led by
Elijah Ross' 19 points. He is averaging 16.3 points and three assists per game since rejoining the starting lineup against Colorado Christian three games ago. Ross has missed only one free throw during the RMAC season and two for the entire season with a 91 percent clip at 20-of-22. He is just outside of qualifying for the conference statistical minimum of two made free throws per game, but would rank fifth in the RMAC if he met the minimum.
The Mountain Lions recorded 42 rebounds last Friday in the sixth 40-rebound game of the season and stayed second in the RMAC with 39 rebounds per game. The Grizzlies have pulled down 40 or more rebounds in four of the last six games and are fifth in the conference with 36.6 per game. Brandon Pasker is accounting for 6.7 rebounds per game to lead Adams State and is seventh in the RMAC.
TreShawn Wilford is third in the conference with 1.9 steals per game this season after five last weekend against Western State. He improved his career total to 112 and will need 21 to tie Jack Bain for third in program history. When he reaches that mark, Wilford will also be tied for seventh in season steals with 44.
It will be a return to the Gallogly Events Center for Adams State Head Coach Russ Caton, who was the UCCS head coach for six seasons. He took the Mountain Lions to the RMAC Tournament three times in a four-year stretch. He comes to Colorado Springs with an offense averaging 83.9 points per game led by Brandon Sly's 15.9 points per game.
Charlie Botnick will call the action on the UCCS Athletic Network, with free coverage on the UCCS Men's Basketball Facebook and Twitter pages.
