COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team will take on a pair of teams it finds itself tied with in the RMAC standings on Saturday and Monday in a conference pod series in Lakewood, Colo. The Mountain Lions (13-14 / 11-11 RMAC) will take on Western New Mexico (15-20 / 12-12 RMAC) and Colorado Christian (15-19 / 9-9 RMAC) at Lakewood Park.
The Mountain Lions have won six of their last nine games and are in a five-way tie for fifth in the conference standings with four weekends to play in the regular season. Western New Mexico has won five of its last eight games, but was 1-3 last weekend at home against Colorado Mesa. Colorado Christian has claimed four victories in the last six games after a split with Colorado State-Pueblo last weekend at home.
Dani Fonseca extended her hitting streak to 23 games in the Chadron State series and hit a home run in the final game for her ninth of the season. She is No. 23 in Division II in home runs per game and is tied for the RMAC lead in total home runs.
Stephanie Chitkowski earned both of the UCCS wins last week and is second in the RMAC in holding opponents to a .248 batting average. She struck out nine batters in six innings of work in the first game on Sunday and surpassed the 100 strikeout mark of her two-year career.
Western New Mexico is second in the league with a .334 batting average, while Colorado Christian is second in the conference with a 3.65 ERA. The Cougars have the second-best hitter in the conference in Jessica Romine with a .449 batting average.Â
